Found this market after we had been out to a couple of others further a field via the Metro. The biggest was at the Metro station attached to the Science and Tech.
We found that the range was smaller in this markets but the quality a bit higher.
What surprised us was that at Da XI Pearls with Lisa the prices were comparable.
This market is in Nanjing street 100m from the Marriott and the Sofitel.
Well worth a look if your not got time or feel it hard to get out to the other places.

We spent an interesting morning exploring the 100's of stalls and shops in the Pearl City Market during our last visit to Shanghai. With the markets endless supply of shops, there was something for everyone's taste from luxury/expensive to inexpensive and common-place. Plus there were always several shops offering the same wares which gave one plenty of opportunity to bargain and get a better deal. I don't think that there was anyone in our group that left empty handed at the end of our visit to the Pearl City Market.

The Pearl City Market is truly a shopping experience. I had a cashmere coat made while visiting the area; its stunning and very well made; good price point to boot. Lots to see and bargains to be had. Would recommend highly to anyone visiting this area. The shopping fun is free.

Enjoyed walking through the market. The costume jewellery was lovely and once I bargained, the prices were reasonable. There are plenty of styles and designs to choose from but don’t pay what they are asking.

Luggage, toys, pearls, leather and more. It was suggested by a friend. When I reached the place it looked like a dump and I was quite disappointed.
But on entering and engaging in shops sound great quality knock offs in electronics as well as luggage. Did quite a lot of bargaining and got good deals. The trick is to keep the bargaining friendly and positive. - you get the best results by being light hearted rather than rude and pushy.
Happy shopping

Pearl City was reccommended to me by a Chinese-born professor I was traveling with, and she knew what she was talking about, If you don't like to haggle with shopkeepers don't bother because the prices start out very high. With some haggling and teaming up with friends we negotiated good prices on freshwater pearls, south sea pearls, and jade. I think everything was real, but lower prices were of less quality. The silk and ceramics on the other floors didn't impress me and seemed way overpriced. On a practical note, this is a restroom on the silk floor that was ok.

Be ready to negotiate but there is not much room for it. I like to go back once a year to stock up on various stuff.

The Pearl City market is one of three markets in the subway station adjacent to the science and technology museum in Pudong.

The market is one of three. There's the Pearl market for jewelry, the fashion market for handbags, wallets , she's and other items similar to designer goods and the custom tailoring market.

The fashion market is pushy. I think they have a rule stall holders can't intercept you in the corridors, but necessary you engage n discussion, they see you as a future sale that hasn't been made yet. Although it sounds counterintuitive, it's s good idea to counter their price with an offer at about 20% of their quote, negotiating your way up.

The Pearl market looks more serious. There's attractive jewelry at different price points. We found some nice gifts that were quite reasonable.

The tailoring area is even more serious. My wife found a shop that does custom made women's shoes at about $180 USD. For leather shoes with leather soles, that's not a bad price in world markets. There's a two week turnaround time, so that didn't work for us.

It's not bad, but the Silk Market in Beijing is far better.

This is a small market complex selling many kinds of jewellery. Large assortment of pearls finished into interesting ear rings, rings, bracelets, and neck pieces. There are many shops in each floor. Language was a problem. You need to definitely bargain in case you buy. we were in a group and we bought a lot! It was the start of the holiday for the chinese spring fest and the owners were in a rush to shut down so we got very little time there. A must visit if keen to pick pearls.

If you're going to the knock-off market below the Science and Technology Museum, be ready to be accosted and ready to haggle. That's part of why you go. But, the Pearl Market is a much more relaxed experience. Products are good from fake pearls to real pearls.

I recommend Lina Store (#C2). Jennifer is great. She created a few custom pieces for my wife while we were there and the pricing was very reasonable.
