About
The Multimedia Theatrical Spectacular 'ERA Intersection of Time' has been performed since its debut at Shanghai Circus World in September 2005. It is unique and comparable to the tradition of the Broadway Musical. It is in fact a stunning acrobatic show combining traditional Chinese arts and modern technologies. The performers present Chinese acrobatics, martial arts and dance perfectly in harmony with the music, sound, lighting, and other special effects, which include a water screen. While you marvel at the highly proficient skills of the performers, the story of China's evolution from its ancient past to the future is told. Hence, the title 'Intersection of Time', as the viewpoint of the audience is set in the present between the past and the future. The performance provides a wonderful insight into China's ancient culture and civilization, with sections about Sinan, an ancient Chinese invention for telling directions, soothsaying and conjuring. There is a fantastic section showing an acrobatic program which has elements performed since the far off days of the Han Dynasty (206BC–220AD). With porcelain jars and vats as their stage properties the performers give an overview of Chinese porcelain culture and greater understand of the country's name of 'China'.Modern achievements that are also showcased include Shanghai Donghai Cross-Sea Bridge, Maglev Train, and Shenzhou 5, China's first manned space mission. From these, you can see the amazing development and bright future of Shanghai and the whole country. The 100-minute performance shows not only artistic skills, but also creativity. Aided by multimedia including vision, original live music, sound effects, smell effect, air conditioning and lighting,

My husband & I took our 13 yr old grandson to see their performance when they were touring through Jacksonville, FL. I was hoping it would more along the lines of Cirque du Soleil, but it certainly wasn't. It was almost as though they were a troupe in training. There were many mistakes & the routines just weren't very interesting. They begged for applause, which I found offputting. Even though I got my tickets at a discount, it still wasn't worth the price that I paid.

I highly recommend you to add this place to your visit! Beautiful show, you’ll enjoy every part of it.
There is 15min break during the show. You can buy coffee, soft drinks and popcorn inside the circus.

I went to this circus today and can say that I had to get up and excuse myself many times throughout the show. The show I saw was a different show than the "Cirque de Solei"; this was just like a Ringling & Bros circus, but much less grand and with animals who were obviously mistreated. The show had tigers, lions, bears, seals, horses, dogs, and birds. All of which displayed the tell tale sign of mental distress of bobbing heads and swaying back and forth. The animals were skinny, you could see their ribs. The animals did tricks for small pieces of food; it looked like they were starving. It’s almost as if they were deprived of food so they would perform on stage. The bear drove in a car, balanced on a ball and a small piece of wood and tin can. They had two lions and two white tigers. The training rods they used were sharp metal rods where they would poke the tigers if they did not perform. Even the dog act was disturbing; one dog was not performing and the trainer/performer grabbed it hard by the ear where you could hear it yelp. One seal constantly swayed its head back and forth. It was just a horrible show and very disturbing. I am by no means an animal rights activist or anything like that...but I do have compassion for animal suffering and any suffering at that. This was nothing I would recommend.

I took my 10 year old son and we paid for the 2nd best tickets in the second row. The performance was amazing and we were genuinely full of awe and admiration, on the edges of our seats. The performers seemed great. Afterwards we bought the DVD and as we were leaving my son saw some of the performers lined up for photographs. There were two girls next to us and a guy at the side ushered them forward and took their photo with the performers. My son then went forward and I took a phone photo of him with the performers at which point this guy turned to me and demanded 100 yuan. It was an awful moment, and now I realise he had just taken the photo of the girls to attract customers. However, I was so taken aback that I paid and then bust into tears on our way out and home. It soured the evening and to be honest has been simmering under our entire experience of china. Just when you think everything is lovely and you're having a great time, you fall victim to a nasty, greedy scam. It's for this reason that I would never go back to this place.

I thought I was going to be bored as I have seen so many Cirque Du Soleil performances and after seeing a Cirque performance other circus performances just don't measure up. WAS I WRONG! This circus is AMAZING! Very talented performers that keep the pace moving. I don't want to say too much cuz I don't want to spoil the moment. I would definitely see it again. If you have the time or can obtain a ticket, go see it. Pretty amazing performers. They have a small concession stand that sells popcorn and water. If you have issues with smell, you may want to sit towards the back as there is some motorcycle exhaust that wafts around towards the end, it isn't too strong but others may have issues. If this review helps you please give me a thumbs up. Thank you!

Truly spectacular show.
I recommend.
We bought the ticket on the day and got good seats.
There is a subway stop 50 meters from the Shanghai Circus Building.

While visiting Shanghai, an acrobatic show is a must. Shanghai Circus World is convenient located with its own Metro station, which makes it easily accessible.
We saw the ERA show, which was really great and astonishing - so if you are in Shanghai, do not miss this.
We bought tickets in the 380 RMB price category, but the tickets for 280 in the middle offers almost the same view so going again I would save the 100 RMB and go for the 280 RMB tickets.

Probably we took the wrong show but we ended up in a nightmare show with stupid clowns, a bear on a bike (!), a bunch of other animals in a stupid show and too many clowns. Never go there!

Went to the circus during short stay in shanghai and had a great evening. It was a fantastic show and all performers look like they really enjoy every minute on stage. Should not be compared to Cirque du Soleil but well worth the money to see. Tickets range from $20, $35, $50 + AUD. We paid $35 and were very happy with seats but for those wanting cheaper holiday $20 would still get you great views. All seats are good, no seats with disrupted views. Easy to get to using metro. Take "Shanghai circus world" station, take exit 3, walk out of station veering to left, take your
right and your there. Go early for pre dinner. Walk past the circus a block to the shopping blocks, blue frog bar and grill has great menu and fast service. Pack snacks if you want something in the show as circus has candy/popcorn/drink stand but not great selection and ice cream looks as though its been sitting a while. Fun night, enjoy

If you are looking for ERA show, the new temporary location is 2801 Gonghexin Road.
You will not know this until you go to the venue.
And try to avoid D section when you buy the tickets (but this is the cheapest ticket), view is blocked for some the shows.
Otherwise show is good. I have been here couple of times already.

Hi! I read that some people wrote that the location has changed. If we book tickets on tripadvisor:
a) where do we pick them up?
b) where is the show taking place in July 2019?
Thanks!
Sara

You can pick up the tickets at the circus. I can’t tell you whether it’s moved back yet or not but if the taxi driver doesn’t know and drops you at the permanent venue then it’s only about a ten minute walk to the temporary venue anyway.
There is signage - just hard to follow so allow extra time.

Exactly as Joakim said. Around 2hours (2hrs+some minutes) with a break (in our case it was roughly 20 minutes)

Taking METRO in Shanghai is my first choice if there are stations nearby. I agree with Alan H. (If you must take a cab please do make sure that you have lots and lots of time.) Enjoy and have fun!!

From our concierge, they said ERA has more stunts, more elaborate feats. Happy Circus is geared towards children.

Written December 7, 2017
Metro Line 1, Stop at Station Shanghai Circus World. Exit from the station, do not cross any road, it just at the back of the station. Walk for about 300meters

hi do you when it starts . I don't have tickits yet is it possible to buy two from the tickits office for the same day.
Written November 5, 2017
Yes, getting the tickets same day should be fine. The theatre was not full when we went on a Friday. As the place is small, any seats should be fine and will have a good view of everything.
We bought our tickets online from viator. Went to pick up the tickets at the box office about two hours before the show.
Lots of empty seats, more than 50 -100 empty.
