About
Honoring all styles of music and dedicated to the preservation and celebration of Alabama's musicians and the state's great musical heritage. The Alabama Music Hall of Fame was a dream and goal of the Muscle Shoals Music Association, a Shoals area based professional organization of recording studio owners, producers, musicians, songwriters and other music professionals. In 1980, through their efforts, the State legislature, with leadership of State Senator Bobby Denton, created a state agency, the Alabama Music Hall of Fame Board, with a mandate to honor all of this state's great music achievers, and to build a facility in which to showcase these talented individuals and their accomplishments.

I enjoyed looking at all the exhibits and learning about some musicians that I frankly had not heard of. Being able to go in the "Alabama" band's tour bus was neat. The museum highlighted all the amazing talent that came out of the state of Alabama. The gift shop was nice also and the prices were not a rip-off.

The museum is stuffed full of music memorabilia. The displays are vignetted by music style and period. It is an impressive venue. If you like music and music history this is a must place to have on your list to visit.

So impressed by the number of Alabama musicians, song writers and performers.
Not crowded for a Saturday, probably because it is after Labor Day. Displays were informative and nice to look at.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Bought a few items at the nice gift shop.
Highlight was old Pontiac with Western theme, found on Webb Pierce album cover.

This actually is a great little museum, but would be nice if there was more to it. It seemed like they had only one or two items for each person inducted. There was only one other person there visiting at the same time as me which was sad. I honestly was only there because I knew Tommy Shaw had been inducted, but I learned quite a bit about other musicians from Alabama. The Alabama tour bus was a nice surprise. I wish I could have listened to more of the music there like in other music museums I visited in Memphis. I also thought the portraits at the beginning were a bit hideous. Weird how the bathrooms are hidden within the museum rather than near the front. The staff member there was very nice and I bought several items in the gift shop.

Stopped here on our music tour of the shoals. Was not disappointed. Very cool place to stop and interesting music that came out of Alabama. If you are interested in music history and Alabama this is a must stop. Besides they have one of the tour bus from Alabama on display and you can walk through it

A relatively small museum but very informative... one of the big BIG reasons I like this museum is when you get to a display there is not miles and miles of written information for you to read over and you become numb and stop 1/2 thru. Each display has simple explanations about the display and is well thought out. I was impressed (with me being from Memphis) several displays that had a direct connection to Memphis... two mainly that being WC Handy and Sam Phillips of Sun Records ( he discovered Elvis)... one of the fun things is being able to walk thru the tour bus of the country group Alabama... if you are in the area then it is worth a stop and a few hours to go thru it.

It was on our "to do" list as we headed out of Muscle Shoals area and on to Memphis. Have to say it was a really special place. Lots of information and a great tribute to all of the music (and those inspired by - including Duane Allman & Lynyrd Skynyrd among others) from Alabama, Fun Alabama tour bus, loved the Drive By Trucker guitar... I literally could go on and on. Spouse and I agree it was one of the big pleasant surprises on our trip. It's a great place to bring your entire family.

I've seen a lot of musical history in the South. This is one of my favorite places to visit. There is a lot of things to say about AMHofF. But, the words cannot describe it in this short review. You have to see ot for yourself. Just incredible.

If you are a music lover, no matter what type of music you like, you simply must see the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. I live in Nashville and am a huge fan of The Country Music Hall of Fame on 16th Ave. in Nashville. However, our recent visit to the Alabama Music Hall of Fame just blew me away. Each museum tells a different story, and these two stories are vitally connected. Nashville focuses largely on country music only; the Alabama Music Hall of Fame is much broader and includes many types and styles of music. While I knew most Southern music was connected to the 'Bible Belt' of the south, it was here that I came to understand that so many more music styles had evolved here. The list of music artists, musicians, song writers, publishers, the whole of American music itself can be found at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame because so many musicians recorded in the Muscle Shoals area of Northern Alabama. From rock, county, gospel, big band, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, the list is endless at the Alabama Hall of Fame. You learn that Nashville is only one piece of the picture. Come here to see the rest of the story. We took about 3 hours to see it and our heads were spinning with facts and connections. It is such a fun place for people who love popular music.. Come see what's here. It is not to be missed.

If you're a music fan or are visiting the Shoals area then stopping by here is an absolute must. The amount of stuff they have packed into the building is incredible. Its definitely affordable admission wise and the gift shop was very reasonably priced for this kind of attraction.
My one negative comment would be the broken fountain outside but it was explained to me that there was no room in their budget to get it fixed at this time.

We plan to visit the Alabama Music Hall of Fame later this month on a road trip through TN and AL. How should we expect to spend at the hall of fame. 2 hours? Longer?

Hi, of course it depends on your level of interest and how you like to see museums. I would say half an hour to an hour, unless you are going to read everything in the displays, or watch the whole documentary video like we did (which is almost 2 hours long!) We did not expect to sit and watch the whole thing (in the lobby) but found it so fascinating that we did so. You might be able to watch it before your trip to give you the context. It's called "Muscle Shoals: The Incredible True Story of a Small Town with A Big Sound" (2013). There is also an option to make your own recording in the sound studio (for a fee) which would take more time (and more talent than we have). And a nice gift shop which would take extra time for folks who like to shop. Enjoy your trip!
