My family visited Zoo Ave to check out the wildlife and were thoroughly impressed with the zoo. There were lots of birds and mammals and reptiles there to see. Our 3 and 4 yr old kids really liked all of the exhibits.

WE spent about an hour here after landing in Alajuela that day. Lots of neat animals in a very tropical setting. It is a bit pricey...100 dollars for a family of 6. The kids did like it however and it was a nice introduction to the Costa Rican wildlife.

Such a great place to take kids and show them animals should not be hurt. They also have a canopy tour that's about 10-15 minutes long it was great.

The first time I heard about Alajuela City, all was about the POAS VOLCANO, but surprisingly Alajuela has any attractions, this is one of them . 100% recommended!!

The zoo was OK. Not that happy about how some of the animals were living. Some cages were really small... The iguanas wondering around the place create some excitement haha and it was fun to get to see a sloth.

Zoo Ave was nice with animals roaming throughout. I was however upset at the price posted as 5,900 colones and the cashier said that that price was only for Costa Rican nationals, (??) I was so mad. She charged us double, $20 because we are from another country. When I argued with her she dropped to $15 so obviously the... More

The Rescate Animal Zoo Ave is only 21 km from San Jose city, however this equates to approximately a 30 to 45 min drive due to the heavy traffic. The experience once at Zoo Ave is excellent, where the entrance fees are incredibly cheap when compared to zoos in Australia and the USA. Animals are all over the site, with... More

If you want to hedge your bet and don't get to see a macaw, a toucan or a capuchin monkey... in the wild while visiting Costa Rica, stop here first. The birds and animals you see at Zoo Ave are being rescued to be released in the wild once/if they recover. Their motto is "a cage is not a prison".... More

We went as part of a multi-day tour. Lots of native and exotic animals. Staff helped us see the sloth which was in the tree tops. Nice film at the end. They are in the process of building wildlife hospital.

yes, it is a rescue zoo. but $20+ seniors is ridiculous. go next door to cafe david for the same view and have a nice lunch.
