Our specialty is combining paddling with an immersion into the natural Costa Rican environment. For more than 20 years, we have been guiding birdwatching trips throughout northern Costa Rica. And, for the past 14 years, we've also been guiding canoe trips in Costa Rica, Vermont USA, Canada, and Nicaragua. Enjoy nature while observing wildlife on the river banks of Costa Rica with our safari tours in your choice of canoe, raft or kayak in Penas Blancas River. Or you may prefer to enjoy a panoramic view of the majestic Arenal Volcano by joining our Lake Arenal by canoe tour. If you would you like explore the nature of Costa Rica by foot, we offer walks to very recognized natural destination tours like Rio Celeste Hike, Cerro Chato Hike, and the majestic Arenal Volcano.

We booked into Canoa Aventura through Hotel El Silencio Del Campo. Four of us were keen for a hike on the nearby Arenal Reserve and then some time at Tabacon Hot Springs. Steven arrived early to pick us up...there was another couple already in the van. We drove to Arenal Reserva to begin the hike. We were first given water... More

We booked a tour with Canoa Aventura and we had the best experience. My husband and I had double kayaks so our 4 and 8 year old sons could safely ride with us. Our guide Mario was very knowledgeable and we had a fabulous trip despite the rain (downpour to be exact). We saw monkeys, sloths, caimans and bird eating... More

Upon a recent visit to CR, we receive a recommendation for Canoa Aventura's "Arenal Combo Tour" and their "Caño Negro Tour." We took advantage of both of these adventure activities and thoroughly enjoyed every minute! The company ran on time, the staff was incredibly friendly, and all tours included pick up/drop off from our hotel. (Skip below for Caño Negro... More

We did 2 fantastic tours on August 30th with Alfredo! Alfredo was very knowledgable and pointed out tons of wildlife including sloths, a snake, monkeys and wild pigs! The bus was nice and clean and we had a great group of people with us. Alfredo alternated between English and Spanish explanations effortlessly. Would definitely recommend the tour, the guide, and... We went on the full day boat tour in Cano Negro. The only negative about this trip is the 2 hour drive to get there and back (including the last 15 minutes down a very bumpy pot hole road) but we saw the most animals and wildlife on our 10 day Costa Rica trip on this tour. We boarded a... More

My friend and I just returned from a great day on the Cano Negro excursion. Our guide, Alfredo, was personable, humorous, enthusiastic about the unique natural features of his country, but most important, he was very knowledgable and had a great eye for spotting well-camouflaged wildlife. I especially enjoyed learning about and viewing the orange albino spider monkeys. Alfredo had... More

We got to spend the day with Jorge (our guide at the hanging bridges) and Alfredo (our guide while kayaking the rio penas blancas). They were funny, polite, and most importantly, knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic about the flora and fauna. In one day we saw a tamandua (anteater), sloth, mot mot, dart frogs, snakes (oriole and bird), bats (long-nosed), howler... More

With the help of Nikki at Pura Vida eh? I chose the Cano Negro trip. While there is a long drive from La Fortuna, there was much to see. The stop at the iguana bridge is super interesting even if you think you have already seen iguanas. These are huge-really huge-and there is a large number of them resting in... More

We decided to do a trip Canoa Adventura after having one of their guides give us a "farm tour" at the hotel that we were staying at. We did the half day kayak experience and absolutely loved it! Our guide, Alfredo, did a wonderful job. I felt very safe and he was incredibly knowledgable about the area, culture, plants and... More
