We just spent a beautiful day with Mario and his family at his farm. Don't hesitate calling Mario (via what's app) - he is so welcoming and you won't regret it. This is very different (I think, didn't visit other farms). experience from the typical tourist farm tour. First you visit the animals (pigs, cows and horse). His father was super sweet and helped my daughter ride the horse which she loved. Then you go for a hike (we did the wimpier one as that is more our style). But he will talk to you beforehand to decide what's best for you. Finally, his lovely mom and sister made a beautiful lunch for us at their home. Also very COVID friendly.
Thanks again Mario and family !! Definitely the highlight of our stay in Costa Rica!

This is a great place to visit if you want to experience something different from the Adventure Tour experiences. It was a quiet little place off the beaten path. Mario and his father were very nice and easy to talk to about their lives on the farm. You need to plan to start early since they milk the cows in the morning. We spent an hour or so visiting their small farm. The farm is a very beautiful and peaceful experience. Then we did the short hike to El Canto Waterfall. It was very beautiful and the hike wasn’t too lengthy or difficult, but it is quite steep and was slippery when we went because of the rain. Afterwards they prepared lunch for us and we ate in their home. A nice local meal with rice, potatoes, beans, fruit, vegetables, avocados, and fresh juice. It was a great price for the experience!

While researching my trip to Arenal, I was looking for things to do outside the regular tourist attraction list (zip lining, rafting, sloth watching...). I was lucky enough to find Mario's farm and it was a true highlight of the trip. Not only we learned a ton about what it takes to raise a cow but also what it takes to live on a farm in Costa Rica. The owner, Mario is open, warm and genuine. I saw other farms offering tours but on further inspection they looked like just another tourist mill (the visitors sitting in arranged seats with the guide going through the script on a wireless mike). If you want to get away from the touristy stuff and have a true genuine experience this is the place. I found the best way to contact Mario is through his Facebook page

We had booked this trip with Mario (second generation farmer) with the highlight of the farm tour being milking the cow. Sounded like the typical touristy experience at first glance. I was skeptical. The farm is located up the hill with a backdrop of the La Fortuna mountain dressed in a velvety veil and meadows in the horizon. Cows are grazing freely like how they are intended to be in their natural environment. We started our tour with a hike descending to the waterfalls. Along the way, Mario talked about his childhood memories growing up on the land. Parts of what we saw were not where it was and in a span of a few decades, the place has grown and progressed but retained the authenticity. We soon reached the magnificent waterfalls - unlike the touristy waterfalls (u know which ones). You can actually go up to the waterfalls and as i understood, they have repelling tour as well. As we ascended back to the meadows, images of the waterfall lingers. Next stop is herding the cows back to the farm. Also a unique experience - I was warned to stay away from a cow who was protecting her baby calf a few days old. Then there is Peggy, the pet cow who does her own thing in her own terms. Funny to observe the animals so free in the environment. Such happy cows. Mario shares his philosophy in farming staying true to organic practices which are long forgotten in the capitalism world. I got to milk a cow and feed 2 baby cows - they have such pretty eyes. It is exactly what Mario and his father does everyday. Mario then invited us to tour the rest of the farm and we saw different types of fruits and vegetables which they grow for their own consumption and a pig sty. At the end of the tour, Mario was gracious to invite us to his home where his mother and sister made simple and tasty food along with boiled milk from the farm. It was a wonderful day and a great way to spend time with the locals to get a cultural experience of their way of life.

I visited the farm with three of my friends and we did the waterfall repelling tour. The farm itself is beautiful and has amazing views of the Arenal Volcano. The trails were easy to navigate and we were able to see all types of animals on our visit. The waterfall tours are a must, one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had. We also visited the cute school just before the farm starts. You really feel like you’re in the heart of the Costa Rican jungle when you visit Finca Loma Verde!

The hike to the waterfall is gorgeous. We saw many blue morpho butterflies at the waterfall. The size and diversity of the plants and trees is amazing. The solitude and pristine natural beauty is unforgettable, and I would highly recommend a visit to this special place.

Finca Loma Verde, which is located just outside la Fortuna is a place I highly recommend to anyone who is visiting the area. The farm has a spectacular 360 degree view that includes a stunning shot of the Arenal volcano. Through out the property there are several nature trails that showcase more beautiful views and the wildlife found on the property. The farm also has a series of waterfalls that are a must see! The staff was fun, professional, and made sure we all had a great time. One of the most beautiful places I have visited since being here in Costa Rica.
