Coco Loco is a FAIR TRADE work shop & gallery for fine local crafts & artwork with a special focus on Costa Rican indigenous culture. It is located 14 km SE of La Fortuna on national route 702 (La Fortuna-San Ramon). Besides indigenous arts & Boruca masks Coco Loco also exhibits the original artwork (arte DK) of the owner, Ruth Deiseroth-Kweton, who works in her studio next to the gallery. As a mixed-media artist Ruth uses any kind of material of the surrounding rainforest to paint and work on: wooden artefacts and surfaces, plant leaves, stones etc. She creates masks, vases, mirrors, crosses and paintings.

Made an unexpected stop for dinner one night and it was our best dinner in Costa Rica! 100% authentic. There was no menu and the staff did not speak any English but we managed to order great food/drinks and felt extremely welcomed by everyone! Highly recommend!

I visited La Fortuna in Feb and Aug '16 and hoped to stop into this great gallery. I purchased a Baruka mask several years prior and wanted to see what else was available. But, as of 2016, the gallery closed and a traditional CR restaurant, serving casados, opened up

Really wide variety of Costa Rican artwork, and something for most any budget. We bought some cool ear rings carved from lava for a very reasonable price, and also bought a beautiful (and far more expensive) Boruca mask. The owner is friendly and generous with her time. Very willing to walk you through the stories behind her stuff.

We saw this shop on our way to our hotel and decided to go to get unique souvenirs. Most of the piece are great, but the paintings and the mask are really expensive. We still found some great items to bring back home.

This is just outside of La Fortuna. It is a very Funky type art studio with some very very Cool Items. The gardens in the front and back are worth it alone. But do check it out you won't be disappointed.

Whenever we are traveling to or from San Jose we try to stop. I gave this a four star rating because it sn't open many times we pass by. I love Ruth's art. We purchased one of the houses acrylics and hope to go back and get a few more pictures. I also love her masks. My daughter hopes to... More

On our last day in Costa Rica, my husband asked if I wanted to buy something special to take home. I went on Trip Advisor and was so excited to find Coco Loco listed with all its great reviews. Because it was Sunday, I called to make sure they were open. I was told that they would be there all... More

I was reminiscing today about my trip to Costa Rica a few years ( I think in 2010) back and browsing all of the pictures I had taken on my month long vacation. Costa Rica is AMAZING, and if I could, I would move there TOMORROW! :o) I stumbled upon pictures of my stay at Coco Loco B & B... More

We were driving to Arenal Volcano National Park and just happened upon Coco Loco Art Studio and Gallery along the way. We stopped because we hadn't found any souvenirs during the first part of our trip that we felt were authentic and captured the essence of Costa Rica. The art in Coco Loco was beautiful and we found ourselves wandering... More

Like others who’ve already posted, what was on offer at Coco Loco made a refreshing change from the standard tourist shops and souvenirs we had seen earlier. We decided to buy a toucan sculpture carved out of dolomite. The owners (Ruth and Alfons) were offering free postage to send bought items abroad as long as you spent $300 or more.... More

Thank's a lot for taking the time to provide your detailed feedback regarding our art gallery and craft workshop. I was reluctant at first to comment on your review because I couldn't have explained that embarrassing experience better than you did. We provide shipping service internationally since 1999 (almost exclusively to the US & Canada). In all those years we... More
