It's not big, but definitely worth a visit. We arrived in the afternoon and choose the option to not have a guide. The guy at the cashier, Juan Carlos, asked if we wanted him as a tour guide for free, as he was a student. He was very good at recognizing the different species as we walked along the path.... More

This small reserve offers a lot of beautiful secret. We did it in two rounds, first we tried to open our eyes to see the animals, but we did not see as much as with the keepers of the center, who know every potential hiding place.

We walked from La Fortuna town to the resurve which took about 50 minutes. It was not busy at the reserve and before the tour we waited by a bird feeding area, where I was able to see toucans for the first time. Our tour guide was Elias and he was so sweet and very passionate about the wildlife and... More

Booked the night tour (by recommendation of our hosts) and do not regret it. We can recommend our guide Walter, who did a fantastic job teaching us how to look (and find!) animals in the night. Took remarkable pictures.

We really looked forward to see this reserve as it was highly recommended. The staff was very interested in the money but not so interested explaining the purpose of the reserve what they were trying to do from a conservation perspective or indeed point our attention to any particular specie. We were given a map of the site and was... More

Located just a few minutes outside of La Fortuna. We went without a guide and found a lot of animals on our own. It's a lot of fun.

You can get here for about $7 in a standard cab and entry with a guided costs $20 per person. Though we were lucky enough to get a volunteer guide for no extra cost over the $15 entry price (they really should start paying him in my view!). He was excellent - so enthusiastic about his country's wildlife and great... More

This was recommended by our receptionist and was a great choice. We had a guide who was very knowledgable pointing out many beautiful birds, poisonous frogs, tree frogs, smelly plants, sloths and toucans. Without a guide it is really easy to miss lots of these things

We visited on a damp afternoon and were blown away by the variety of wildlife in a natural setting - sloths (2 and 3 toed), caimans, butterflies, blue jeans frog, red-eyed tree frog and so many birds. Excellent guide too!
