Set off from San Jose early via bus. Long winded journey up the mountain wasn't too bad. Disappointingly the crater of Poas was covered in cloud which meant you couldn't really appreciate the views. After wandering around the trails and a stop off in the...More

From San Jose, it was a little over an hour drive. Spent roughly 40 USD for two people to get into the park and received the warning that we had a 50/50 shot of actually seeing the crater. Fortunately, along with the rest of our...More

This is an active volcano with sulphur smoke still coming out from the crater. The view from the top is beautiful. It was good that the crater was not obscured by clouds. The walk to the summit is 1.5 miles at an altitude of 7000 ft or...More

We loved this experience but make sure you go there when it is clear, when we were there it was cloudy so we had to wait 20 or so minutes and then all of a sudden it cleared it out. We were on a tour...More

This is a great place to see a volcano up close. I would recommend seeing this volcano over some of the others as you can see the inside. Very cool!

I had an 8 hour layover and wanted to do something while here. I came to the volcano, and what a beautiful park (and view). I would definitely like to come back for a longer stay.

It is truly an active volcano. Steam spurs upwardly. There is a strong smell of Sulfur. Asthmatics and lung sensitive sufferers should prepare for reactions or shorten their visit. It is wheelchair and elderly accessible because of ramps. You will have a great view of...More

The weather did not look propitious the morning we drove up to the park: lots of low moist cloud cover. But we went and when we paid the entrance fee ($15 for Non residents and then another $3 for parking) we were told that there...More

My wife and I went to the Poas Volcano in February 2015 and had a great time. We were lucky (as per others we met) and had no clouds obstructing the view. The park is cool with crazy trees and everything is either up or...More
