Nature in all its glory

If you go yo Costa Rica you must see this volcano. The beauty of this area has no equal. The road leading to the volcano has a lot of restaurants and souvenir shops.

Unfortunately due to fog we were not able to see the lagoon by the crater. That being said, it is still a nice place to go & spend some time there. They have pathways through the volcano. There is some walking so be prepared & the high altitude will make you tired. But I truly enjoyed it.

The views are supposed to be fantastic when you look at the pictures. We were not lucky at all. The top of the volcano was in the clouds for several hours. Easy walk to the top and good amenities at the base . Also a small museum that allowed us to take the pictures we missed on the top !!

Very touristy. Be prepared for long queues at the entrance if you are not there at the opening. Very coudy during the day.

This is our second time to Poas Volcano. We like it a lot because it's an easy hike with young children, even with a stroller! And the reward is "possibly" an amazing view or a mountain of fog. :) Regardless, children are just as attracted to see all that fog so it is worth the hike for everyone. Highly recommended!

I went during the rainy season, June, 2015. The volcano open up for a few minutes and it was a breathtaking experience. The clouds returned and I was not able to see the lake (an old crater), a twenty minute walk from the crater. But seeing the volcano and the vegetation surrounding the area was a well worthed experience.

Entry to the Poás Volcanic Park is now $15 for adults and $5 for kids. They graciously warned us that visibility would be (very) limited. Arriving later on the day in the rainy season we knew this was a strong possibility- but still we appreciated the heads up. Soon as you pass the booth & pull up you arrive at... More

One of the most common tourists' attractions of Costa Rica, most likely because it's very near to the Central Valley. Is it foggy? Yes! Is the volcano always visible? Nope. Sometimes you have to wait a lot for the clouds to disappear and see the actual crater of the volcano. However, there's a beautiful rainy forest in which you can... More

This is a nice place to walk (hiking) if you don't have anything else to do. From my and other colleagues experience most likely 80% time is dense fog and you cannot see anything. The walk though trough forest is nice. I recommend it only if is part of a 1 day trip (Vulcano, Coffee plantation, Waterfalls).
