This is a fabulous place. There are different areas to enjoy, all beautifully done. I think a few more flowering shrubs would add to the enjoyment of all the tropical greenery.

This botanical garden is owned by a company exporting ornamental flowers.

You can visit with either kids or elderly. The walking tour is nice and feasible by any age range.

There is a stream on site that makes it more pleasant.

I only wish they could set up a few more spots where to see flowers and maybe butterflies. But the place is the perfect balance between “not too conditioned” and “conditioned so you can enjoy” the trails. You feel immersed in nature while some other places are cemented gardens.

Highly recommend!

Beautiful gardens and well maintained trails. The temperature was quite comfortable. There are areas to picnic, a children's playground, benches for resting, and restrooms halfway through. Be sure to carry your lunch, take your camera, and wear comfortable shoes. This is the type of place where you can relax and see something different on each visit. Most of the plants have signage so that you know what you are looking at. It is also attached to a gigantic plant nursery, which is a trip on its own. If you are in Sarchi, this is a must do.

A wonderful collection of tropical plants in a well cared for setting. Amazing to think it is the result of one woman’s vision and hard work.

This botanical garden, nestled behind an active flower export company, is a peaceful quiet oasis. The minute we stepped on the path, we heard a bubbling brook. The size of the leaves of the plants and brilliance of the tropical flowers was everything we had hoped for on our visit to Costa Rica. Butterflies, birds, tropical flowers, even
a pond with a small waterfall. There was even a unique playground at the end of the trail, making sure little ones enjoy this garden as much as their parents, although the playground was empty the day we visited.

We finally visited Else’s garden in Sarchi a month or 2 ago and wondered why we had not done that before, because it is beautiful, there is a maze, so many beautiful plantings and paths that meander throughout. We will go again, it is a fantastic place to enjoy nature, take a picnic and if you have kids, play areas.

This is well worth the time to visit. Parking is convenient and the entrance fee very reasonable. Hours are 8 am to 4 pm and we found a couple of hours very enjoyable. Well planned paths and places to sit and take in the beauty abound. There are some steep places on the trails, but the main path is accessible for walkers and wheelchairs. There is something for everyone here from playgrounds for kids to benches and swings for quiet contemplation. The river path is beautiful and leads to the lake with lily pads and a tropical garden with a wonderful waterfall and an events location. There is a nice picnic area if you care to bring a lunch. On the way back we enjoyed the forest with shade and onto the succulents to round out our lovely afternoon

We have been staying in Grecia and thought we would take the short ride up to Sarchi and visit the Else Kientzler Botanical Garden. This beautifully layed out garden provided us with a pleasant walk among a wide variety of Central and South American plants and trees.

Over 2,000 plant species in these gardens somewhat off the beaten tourist path in Costa Rica. A beautifully landscaped and meticulously manicured, yet natural, arboretum, one of the best (of many) I have seen in the world. If quiet walks through verdant and diverse foliage and fauna is your thing, you'll be in your element here for a good part of the day. After a few hours here, it really seeps in how these diverse species preceded us by (hundreds of) millions of years, and transformed our atmosphere as part of the ecosphere which continues to enable us to be here. A wonderful thought to keep in mind as you visit Costa Rica, home to 5% of the world's species and one of the mega diversity countries of the world.
