This small botanical garden can be visited in about an hour and is well worth a visit. It can be nicely combined with a visit to the Irazú volcano. It was established in the 1970s and pertains to the University of Costa Rica. Its focus...More

Over all, a beautiful garden and worth the trip. I was there in late July and there were enough orchids flowering for my purposes. Some nice heleconias, too. However, virtually nothing is labeled with botanical names and there are no educational displays. The cactus garden...More

I've been to the gardens several times, and each time was very enjoyable. I love taking a quiet stroll here, enjoying the variety of flowers and also the sculptures on the grounds. This is a place children and adults can enjoy for a few hours,...More

This is not a huge Jardín Botánico, but still lovely. The signs were old. They were working on updating the Jardín, but it was not a problem. Plan for one hour to enjoy it.

The garden has a variety of plants that are native to Costa Rica and other places. There are many good opportunities for photos, and it is a nice quiet place to walk and explore for a bit if you have some time to kill in...More

We had some extra time in Cartago and stopped by Lankester Botanical Garden. The orchids house was very nice. We were unimpressed by the Japanese Garden and the Succulents garden. Both areas felt like they were under construction and seemed half-finished. Otherwise, it was delightful....More

The orchid garden was beautiful. There are birds flying everywhere and many plants that are rare to see. Lots of cactus and succulents as well. Bring bug spray or make sure you have long sleeves on in the more jungle areas as the mosquito's are...More

It is a nice, quiet place to wander. If you've been to many botanical gardens, there isn't anything special here, but it is a good, family friendly place.

Few people visiting San Jose are aware of this beautiful botanical garden. Only 1.5 hours from SJ. Less than 15 minutes from downtown Cartago. Feel free to spend your relaxing time among the beautiful tropical plants and flowers. The Japanese Garden is particularly peaceful and...More

The distance is 40 to 50 miles. The trip would not normally take very long but it depends on the traffic. If you're in a rental car street signs and traffic signs do not exist. You will need to rent a road mate or similar... More

I wrote a good answer but the site said I could not include web sites or URLs which I did NOT. Annoying to have to erase most of my answer. I have no idea what you thought was a web site or a URL.
