Our warm-up for kayaking Costa Rica rivers was on the Pejibaye river. It was a nice short drive from Turrialba. Our raft & kayak company, Amazing Vacations Costa Rica took us here to access our skills before we sent off for harder whitewater rivers. It is a good class 2/-3 for kayakers. This is where the local slalom race course is for the Tico whitewater kayakers.

One of the great rivers that Costa Rica has to offer. This one is family friendly as well as interesting enough for up to level 4 kayakers. Many put in options from calm to more advance white water experience. You would need some local guidance as the entrance to the river are hard to find.

I am not a fast rapids, fall out of the boat, thrill-seeking kind of rafter. If you're looking for a little bounce, a few waves, and lots of gorgeous scenery - then this river will do the trick. It's a beautiful river surrounded by incredible trees and birds. Our tour guide, Luis, even took us out of the boat to quietly watch local men hard at work grinding cane into sugar. He named trees, birds, and shared his love of the water and his native Turrialba with us. I came out of the river filled with not only new knowledge about the river, but also as if a fun friend had introduced me to the area. This was one of the best rafting trips I've been on.

A group of us with Green Frog Aventures used this as our warm up river. It was normal water level and the run started with several class III rapids, then calmed down. It was a nice stretch of water to see bird life and the Costa Rica scenery.

A fun easy river that we went down on inflatable kayaks for beginners on a Week of Adventures with Costa Rica Rios. Well used by locals on Sundays adds charm and culture to this unspoilt river.

Our family went rafting with Costa Rican Resource (crrtours.com). We have 3 boys ages 8 1/2, 8 1/2, and 11. We had a great time! Our "pilot" Marlon was clearly experienced and made sure everything was done safely. Luis stayed close by in a kayak to check things out, assist if anyone fell in, take pictures, and generally keep us all extra safe. We stopped along the river where we were met by additional CRR staff who prepared a delicious lunch. Given that there had been a lot of rain recently, the Pejibaye was a much better choice than the Pacuare with younger kids. Don't get me wrong, it was still thrilling! Kudos to CRR for good judgement on that call and for an overall great day!

This is an ideal trip for those who have never rafted before. The river is usually tranquil, but it is ideal for those that don't feel up to the Pacuare.

Second time we booked with this company and our family loved it as much as we did a few years ago. The river is challenging enough for first timers, October the river is very full. Don't hesitate to do this trip, most ages are comfortable , and the company is very safety conscious.

We went through at a somewhat low water level. The rapids were II or II+, so it makes for a fun trip in inflatable kayaks, not difficult for beginners and certainly good for kids in rafts. It is not that long, so we had time to run the stretch twice. The scenery is lovely.
