Samara Beach is perfect because you get to swim and relax during the middle of the day but you can also surf morning and evenings and the waves are not big so it is perfect for beginners 🌊🌴

Once again I am hesitant to do a review because I am afraid I will contribute to spoiling the unspoiled. When I read about Playa Samara, it said don't come here unless you don't mind doing nothing. Well, isn't that why you go to the beach? The place is undeveloped with no chain hotels, no resorts, only a few restaurants... More

I'm not a very good swimmer. I loved this beach. Beautiful clear tranquil waters. Clean shoreline. Great to bring kids and go for a nice walk. There are little red crabs that hide in the sand as soon as you get close! That was special.

Samara Beach is a huge beach area. Small bit of surf. Water is warm like bath water (a local booklet says average temp 28C). We brought our own floaties and flippers and loved just floating along for hours at a time. The beach can be rocky/coral covered both out of the tide and under the water so bring water shoes... Water here feels like bath water it is so warm ! Average temp is 28*C. Long beach that runs from Samara town and S. towards Carrillo beach. Good waves for surf lessons right near town, waves not as high at the other end due to the island and reef breaking them. Some stones and coral in the sand in places,... More

Be sure to go to the next beach over, Carillo, very lovely. This town is a less crowded alternative to Tamarindo, but the food prices are just as high. Nice spots to eat on the beach in the town of Samara.

Nice beach with cafés along and calm waves where you could swim and let your kids swim, probably one of the best for kids/swimming on Nicoya. Even good for surfers who are more of beginners like myself. 10 min drive there is an, on weekdays, almost empty postcard beach Carrillo. Great athmosphere in town. Lovely place!

My wife and I, and my son, his wife and 1 year old spent a week in Playa Samara. I chose the location because we wanted to spend a week on the beach, play with surfing, etc. but not be in too busy or touristy a place - like Tamarindo. We stayed in a condo in town that was only... More

I absolutely love this beach. It is great for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and beginner surfing. There are tons of palm trees to provide shade when the sun gets to be too much. There are volleyball nets along a good chunk of it. Lots of board rental/instruction places and tons of restaurants right on the beach. It's perfect.
