BE AWARE, DROWNING HAZARD EXTREME!!! We were aware of the rip so were being really careful. My wife and boys (8 and 10) were just cooling off and staying waist deep. A rouge wave came in and quickly washed them out. They were sucked out past the break very quickly with no help in sight. If it weren’t for the heroics of one of the local parking guards (amazingly swam a 12 foot log out to them) and another surfer who came later they would have surely drowned. Beautiful beach but don’t get deeper than your knees. I’m so lucky to still be bringing my family back from this trip.

Colosal waste of time and money. There is nothing there except for white sand. You have to take everything that u want for the visit with you: food, drinks, beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, etc. No cell service. There aren’t any restrooms either, not even porta-potties. We had heard that we absolutely had to go there. Not worth it.

We visited Barrigona beach whilst staying near by, and what a beach it is! Hardly anyone around, beautiful white sand and warm sea water! Breathtaking!

When you think about a tropical beach, with lush palm trees and perfect sand - this is that beach. The water was extremely clear, the waves perfect for surfing, and bookended by hills. Great spot to view the sunset as well.
The road to get here from Samara was very rough - would recommend a 4x4 or some off-road vehicle.

Visited as part of a horseback riding tour. We arrived at around 9:30 am. Beach was almost empty. Very picturesque, white sand and blue water.

This is on the way to Nosara, the road is rough in some spots and you do have to drive through a stream. But it's a beautiful beach and many spots for shade.

Definitely one of the best around Islita. White sand, not crowded, warm waters, huge waves, easy access by car.

Long stretch of pacific waters. Beautiful views. Clean and quite beach. Highly recommended for families with teens. Waves are too big for little children.

Accessible by 4 x4 vehicle, and a short walk from the parking you have an amazing white sand beach with crystal waters and wonderful trees for shade. Big waves, but swimmable.

how far from natural roots is Barrigona beach? We are thinking about walking to Natural Roots from route 160 and wondered how much further the beach is from there.

It's not too far.I am going to guess around one to two miles. However, I am not sure if there is a trail from natural roots. We went by it on our way to another beach that is super cool as well. So that one may be closer.
Can you get there by motorcycle? (its an enduro!)

This should be no problem with an Enduro.
How do we get there from Samara? Do we need a 4X4 vehicle?

Yes, you definitely need a 4X4. There are 2 ways to get there. The short way from Samara and the "long way from Samara. The short way requires crossing a river. I have crossed many times and I have also turned around many times bc river is to high. I have had a friend that crossed when to deep and car filled up with water. Not what you want to do. The long way is longer, but you cross the river on a bridge. When leaving Samara, you will pass a gas station on your right outside of town. There is a highway/road on the left, Just before the gas station. Turn here. There is a sign that reads Nosara. Go untill it dead ends. Turn left. There will be a very nice house/compound on the right, down the road. Used to be Mel Gibson's property. You can not see the house from the road but there is a workshop/mill on the grounds. Take the next right past the property. Follow the dirt road to the beach. Road is narrow, bumpy, and muddy in rainy weather.
To explain the short way is not as easy due to the many turns. Someone in town may be able to explain. Also, best to go at low tide. Also should leave before high tide and if rains heavily due to river, depending on route. The short way is good but hard to explain bc landmarks are by sight and no signs. Hope this helps!!
