About
Two types of tours to see sloths and learn about their diminishing rainforest habitat. Sorry, no direct contact with sloths, for their well-being and yours. "Buttercup Tour" requires no advance reservation; just arrive about 20 minutes before the top of the hour (8AM–2PM) to register. Duration about 2 hours. "Insider's Tour" is given twice daily and requires advance booking. This tour includes everything in the Buttercup Tour plus "behind-the-scenes" visits to the NICU, Slothpital, climbing area and more. Admission/donations collected directly support the sloths – their rescue, rehabilitation, wellness, research, housing and enrichments. Thank you for supporting the sloths with your tour!

I have mixed feelings about this sloth sanctuary. The indoor guide was very knowledgeable, but his constant use of phrases like 'as I already said' or 'as I said before' felt condescending to people asking questions. Despite having over 100 sloths, only about 12-13 are on display, though they are very cute and fun to watch. This was followed by a one hour boat ride with a second guide, Chris, who made the ride memorable by showing us animals and giving excellent local recommendations. It's worth experiencing once, but I probably wouldn't go again.

We had a fabulous visit on a recent trip to Costa Rica. We enjoyed a canoe trip in the local waterway and then had a very informative tour with one of the employees of the sanctuary. We learned so much about sloths. It is well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Great too see the work being done here to look after sick, injured or abandoned sloths. Very knowledgeable guide and the sloths were simply adorable. Worth a stop.

Visited the Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica as part of a shore excursion from a Ruby Princess cruise. This is a must-do if you are in the area. The staff if friendly, helpful and absolutely committed to saving the sloths. Their knowledge is exceptional. I recommend the "Meet The Sloths: Behind The Scenes - An Animal Planet Exclusive Tour" for an in-depth visit.

We were very disappointed with our visit to the sloth sanctuary. Animals and nature are so very well looked after in Costa Rica, yet at this place we felt like the sloths were being exploited. We were the only people on our tour and we were taken to two rooms where there were a number of sloths in cages and given a "talk" by a very lacklustre employee. The entire thing lasted around 20 minutes. We were told the sanctuary had around 200 sloths in total - we saw maybe 16 - where were the others? It made us worried that the other sloths were housed in worse conditions and we were being shown the ones with bigger cages. There was also one sloth that was climbing back and forth along the top of its cage and looked very distressed. Avoid this tourist trap and spend your time seeing sloths in the wild in Cahuita national park (beautiful!) or visit the Jaguar Rescue Centre where you can tell they have the animals best interests at heart.

Our super knowledgeable guide answered all our questions. My hubby initially didn't want to visit, but he had the most questions of everyone in the group. Well worth the drive.
We also got some lovely souvenirs at the gift shop.

The guide was excellent. I was on a Norwegian Cruise. Andrea was our tour guide that was with us throughout the bus transporting us to the sanctuary. Once in the sanctuary our young guide was excellent. I appreciated the tour and all the animals that have been rescued. We were served a nice fruit bowl and juice. The gift store was very convenient.

This is a heart warming place where you can see some sloths up close. It’s quite small and the talk is only about an hour and all the sloths you see have various injuries / ailments which means they can’t go back into the wild. They are extremely endearing animals and it’s worth visiting and supporting this sanctuary.

This was so educational and such a great experience to see the sloths that may not be with us thrive because of the care they are receiving. This was a great experience and would recomment to anyone

Tried this place the day after the Jaguar Sanctuary. This place only has sloths, is slightly more expensive to enter, but does have a more intimate setting where you can see sloths much closer. You still can’t touch, but it was definitely cool to be able to watch them eat only an arm’s distance away. 2 hour tour at Jaguar vs 1 hour tour here. Go to Jaguar if you want to see more species but go here if you want to get up close to roughly a dozen rehab sloths (or go to both if you really love animals).
