We visited the shops, restaurant, bars, and walked around town. It is safe if you keep your eyes open. Don't be flashy and keep to yourself. Visit during the day (preferably), and try to go back to your hotel not too late.

Beach is small but charming. The local people should take responsibility and care more about their spot. To much plastic waste polluting our oceans. Help is urgently needed!!!!!!!

On our multiple beach stops around costa rica, puerto viejo was our least favorite. The beach is dirty and we could not get a good meal to save our lives.
