I had wanted to visit Peaks'n Swells for several years. I finally made it with my family in April, and it was so great and memorable. Even though our trip was shortened by a really poorly timed illness, we fit a lot of surfing into our 5 days. The instructors were so good—much, much more than just pushing us onto each wave but teaching us to choose our waves and improve our technique. Or family ranged in surf skill from a total-beginner 10-year-old to a more experienced 50-year-old, and we all gained a ton. Our 10-year-old was up on day 1, not only surfing but doing dance moves on the board. The ocean water is THE BEST. Warm, clean, clear. I would describe each surf day as a surf safari in the sense that we didn't have to do any of the normal schlepping we'd have had to do our own (not to mention choosing the right breaks and timing each day). Boards were brought to the beach for us along with cold water, coconuts, fresh fruit and fresh-baked muffins. A shady, little base camp was set up with all this plus chairs for us, which was fantastic when we needed a break from surfing. One thing that's hard to describe but I think is really unique about Peaks'n Swells is the familial feeling there. We felt so taken care of, and Hillary, Ryan and Coco are so welcoming and accommodating, especially because we had a few extra needs with two in the family recovering from illness. Lauren and Laura cooked 3 amazing and varied meals every day (along with their excellent homemade hot sauce). Accommodations were perfect, not too fancy, but pretty, spotless and comfortable...and just right for the beach. There was space to hang out with people in common areas or find your own corner to read in a hammock. During downtime, we walked right down and swam in the ocean or jumped in the pool and just relaxed after so much surf action. I can't believe I almost turned down the massage. I'm picky and these were some of the best massages I've had and for sure the best on any vacation. The wildlife at and near the property was awesome: iguanas, tiger herons, monkeys, this giant rodent I am forgetting the name of. We happened to be there for this 2-day tiny crab migration, which was crazy and cool. Mangos were literally falling from the trees. Several surf coaches helped the kids with their Spanish and brought them on adventures when we weren't surfing. Before dinner each night, there were cocktails (different every night) and mocktails for the kids. We'd enjoy them and appetizers while looking at photos and videos of all of us surfing...both educational and really funny at times. We also watched videos of pros and learned how competitive surfing is judged so now we'll be experts during the Olympics! The last evening we went on a sunset surf, which was a magical way to round out the trip. So happy to finally have made it to Peaks'n Swells. This is a GREAT trip for any adventurous family.

Wow! As I am writing this, my family and I just woke up at our house after coming home from Peaks N Swells. This is the first time I have had to worry about feeding myself in a week! 😊 What a truly amazing cultural and family experience. I did not know what to expect, but the entire trip exceeded our expectations. Hillary and Ryan have truly built a world class family environment. Their coaches, chefs, staff, and other teammates are truly a family and welcomed our family with open arms. Mornings are spent drinking fresh brewed Costa Rican coffee and eating a family style breakfast. The schedule for the day is posted and discussed and you leave to surf between 7:30 and 8:00 AM. The first thing that stood out to me is that we all had our own individual surf coach. I was not expecting that. They assist with everything and do all the heavy lifting for you. You arrive at the beach with everything prepared and ready to go for the day. The team has prepared water, fresh coconuts, fruit, and muffins for each family. After a daily surf theory lesson, you are in the water surfing with your coach. I was so impressed with the experience of the coaches and how they never left my wife or children at all. When my youngest son wanted to go back and swim in the ocean after surfing his coach went with him and was having as much fun as he was! When you arrive back to the camp after surfing, you are welcomed with a lunch that is truly remarkable. Fresh ceviche, quesadillas, pasta, fresh fruit, salad, soups, and other local fresh items made by the chefs (twin sisters). Everything is fresh, healthy, and delicious. Your afternoon choices are excellent whether you want to keep the adventure going or relax and disconnect. Hillary does an excellent job helping you schedule your day and setting everything up. The first day we all hiked to a local waterfall and swim hole. Two or three of the coaches come back every afternoon to join you on any unguided local adventures. That was the second thing that impressed me the most. After the first day, the kids wanted to go on other local adventures with the coaches while my wife and I enjoyed massages, yoga, or taking a nap. The kids truly became friends with the coaches during the week and the coaches did everything from taking the kids on hikes to teaching them Spanish during the afternoon breaks. Every night around 5:30-6:00 Ryan will share the photos and videos from the morning surf session while the chefs serve appetizers and the cocktail of the day! They also serve the kids virgin cocktails as well. That is a great time to gather and roast your fellow surfers on the best and worst of the day. 😊 I am a self-proclaimed food snob, and I would not have changed anything about the dinners we were served. They are made with love by the twins and are unique every night. Over the week we had ahi tuna, filet, chicken, coconut crusted mahi, and so many other delicious options. Every night had an excellent vegetarian entrée as well. I never write reviews and I felt compelled to write this long review because this trip truly changed our family for the better. My kids, 17, 16, and 13 can surf and surf well now. They loved every minute of it and want to make a surf trip an annual event. Fortunately for Hillary and Ryan, my wife will only surf if she can surf with Eric (her coach), so it looks like I will be calling Hillary next week to get back on the books. Thank you so much to everyone at PNS! Hillary, Ryan, Coco, Monica, Lilly, Laura, Lauren, Darwin, Dillon, Randall, Eric, Mark, Warner, Russell, Diego, Audrey, Neo, and all the other coaches and staff. You made us feel like part of the family. Hasta la proxima, The Hart Family (Georgia, USA)

Worth every penny! Owners and instructors were amazing. Both kids learned to surf and progressed throughout the week. The food was delicious. They even thought of adventures for kids in the afternoon to give parents time to relax or get a massage on site, although this dad went on all the adventures and had a great time. Already talking about returning. Wife also loved on-site yoga with the monkeys.

We searched long and hard for an adventurous getaway that we all could enjoy. Peaks and Swells exceeded all expectations. The compound is an oasis next to the beach with a fantastic pool, wonderful food, a wide array of wildlife meandering through. We were first-time surfers and with great instruction managed to be competent after the first couple of days. The yoga and the masseuse were also perfect (and necessary). Hillary and Ryan are fantastic hosts with a long history in the area, and the staff all tremendous. It felt like one big family at the end of the week. In order to return to the US we had to get COVID tests. The techs came right to the camp and results were returned the following day via email without a hitch. We expect to make this a regular destination. It is a very special place.

If you want an amazingly memorable family or couples vacation, combined with learning to surf, Peaks n Swells is the place to go! The intensive surf training was perfect for learning a lot rapidly, and the surf coaches were all very helpful and friendly. The food was exceptional, tasty, healthy and varied. Hillary and Ryan create a relaxed and fun environment that left us feeling very well taken care of and warmly connected to them and the other participants. Highly recommended for an off-the-hook awesome experience!
