About
The Jade Museum and of precolumbian culture is positioned as an innovative state-of-the-art cultural proposal in the protection and conservation of archaeological heritage in Central America. Located in the center of Costa Rics's capital, the building was especially constructed to house the museum's collection, its architecture evoking a cut jade block. Its five levels exhibit objects crafted by artisans specialized in solving their daily subsistence needs, their spiritual and political world.

The museum is a definite San Jose highlight. More than just a nice jade museum, it’s actually a gem of archeology and anthropology in one. In the two main modern galleries you’ll find some great insights on how the pre-Colombian people lived, including their rituals and daily lives. Well worth an hour.

The beautiful is in a interesting building and is very well done. Its on 5 stories, and not only about jade, but about many aspects of culture / tradition / art in Costa Rica. Its definitely worth a visit, and was for me the major highlight of San José, besides the gold museum.

I was absolutely stunned by the number and quality of the artifacts on all five floors of the Jade Museum. And the staff was super helpful.

The is a really impressive museum . It's is creatively put together and looks like it could fit into New York City easily. There's lots of jade and lots and lots of pottery.
Each of the floors tells a different story and some of it is interactive. But it's visually fun to walk through. Floors light up. Images appear. Great graphics tell stories. Some pottery and had displays can be repetitious. We Loved It!

I always try and add a bit of culture when we travel. The jade museum and it's artifacts as well as the artwork are worth spending a few hours with.

The first floor can be a bit drab (besides the entry mural) but once you're in the five floors of galleries you'll definitely be impressed. There is an absolutely stunning number of artifacts on display, absolutely priceless cultural artifacts... definitely a must see if you're in San Jose.

There are five floors of exhibits in the Jade Museum which include hundreds of artifacts, many dioramas, some interactive displays (although the interactive displays were disabled due to Covid). We spent about an hour there but we were a bit rushed because we arrived late the afternoon and the museum closes at five. We really enjoyed the exhibits. I think we could have spent another half hour there had we not had to leave because of our late arrival. It was very informative and easy to understand as the exhibits included English translations as well as Spanish descriptions.

If you love old pottery, you are going to the right place! Nice historical stop. It was a bit too much pottery for me. My expectation was to see much more jade joya due to the name of museum. The building is new and modern and has air conditioning and the displays were nice and informative. The entrance fee is pricey - 16$.

Pricey for non-nationals like myself, but worth it. The jade exhibits were interesting, but there are many other pre-Columbian artifacts here, like obsidian knives, pottery, some gold. And there are period dioramas. Very edifying.
