Metropolitan church has a rich history snide its walls. I felt that I was touring a very sacred place filled with rich culture. I had an opportunity to peek inside one of the local jewels. I could feel how important religion is to the community. A wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone who has a curious mind. You... More

From outside it does not look like an interesting building. Grayish in color and kind of footless. Neoclassical colums in front like many other worldly buildings from the same period. However inside you get a very different feeling. It is rather cosy for a cathedral. Not light but rather dim also because of the short Roman style arches and windows.... More

Beautiful church in terms of stained glass, religious icons (check out the visitor pix to get a taste) I stumbled into someone in the organ loft practicing - gorgeous. Would have loved to visit during a service to hear the music.

Located in san jose down town. A more modern church but beautiful, with a European touch. With the most beautiful window glass paint decor.

If you wanna see a nice Catholic Temple, 3 blocks south from the Cathedral, you find the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Merced, which is a colorful and pretty Gothic-tico building, with wood interiors and nice stained glasses. In the same spirit with higher expectations, go to Cartago to visit the Basilica de la Virgen de los Angeles, which... More

The stained glass in the Metropolitan Church is really stunning, as is the beautiful indigo painted vaulted ceiling. There's also a side chapel with incredible glass too. Free to visit.

Built in 1871 and completely refurbished in the late 1990s to repair earthquake damage, the neoclassical cathedral, topped by a corrugated tin dome, isn't terribly interesting outside. But inside are patterned floor tiles, stained-glass windows depicting various saints and apostles, and framed polychrome bas-reliefs illustrating the Stations of the Cross. A magnificent 1891 Belgian pipe organ fills the church with... More

Big and square, and not particularly beautiful. Check out the iglesia Merced down the road a few blocks, that one is gorgeous.
