We saw the University many times and it looks very good, however our friend who we stayed with her daughter is studying medicine there. Having seen the volume of work she does at home i could see the university expect 110% comittment from student's, i am retired from the UK Health Service so i understood many of her assignments and i have yet to visit a country that turns out more doctors and dentists as they do in Costa Rica so much so they have too many and some have to practice overseas, i wish the UK had this problem. I assume this is the result of not having Armed Forces and that money is directed to Education.

A pleasant campus for a stroll and next to an area with a lot of restaurants and cafes. An easy bus ride from central San Jose.

This the most pretigious university in Costa Rica. ITs campus is large and totally safe, they have a train station that takes students to and from other cities and universities.

I loved the UCR's atmosphere. Between all the college aged students milling about and the trees, streams, and walkways, it's a good place to hang out, meet friends and have conversations.

The bus from San Jose to San Pedro (or San Pedro Unversity) costs about 60 cents, takes 30 minutes to arrive, and one is within the groves (or forests) of Academe. We went on a Sunday and missed the highlight, the Museum of Insects), but plenty of students were around, plenty of dogs walking their professors (sic) ahd a plethora of birds in the abbreviated forests between the academic building. A pleasant few hours where students practice English and we practice Spanish with the soon-to-be elite of Costa Rica.

I was pleasantly surprised by this modern campus. Many newer buildings, happy looking students, and secure location. Lots of art to see and green space to enjoy.

I have spent hours on campus at the law school.. A typical university camps, but not in the best of condition. Good place to study Costa Rican Law, however.

If you are coming to San Pedro anyway, you can enjoy a walk through UCR's campus. It feels a bit like a trip back in the 1970s, but the architecture and crowd give you a sense of the values of educated Costa Ricans. A nice break from the city traffic.

I loved attending the university of costa rica, such a rich diverse student population, lots of great events to get everyone out and having a fun time. I even remember seeing projecto uno perform here, and some of the very best restaurants are located all around campus - mmmm, arroz con pollo fue muy fabuloso!

Like any other campus, there are very interesting things to see in UCR. I tend to take jogs around the university as the main road goes around the university. But even just to walk through the small forest in the middle which houses 1-2 sloths who usually like coming out to say hello. You can also spot the different graffiti, sculptures, mosaics, and interesting artwork around the campus. There are several swings near the music department. It's really cool, just hanging out near the swings and hearing all the different music being practiced there.
It's a great place to visit and just get to know. Especially if you live near the San Pedro area. You can also find really cheap food in the school cafeteria! :)
