Chicken Gold Camp & Outpost (CGC), an RV park and campground which...

Chicken Gold Camp & Outpost (CGC), an RV park and campground which includes a historic bucket line gold dredge listed as a National Historic Site, is located in the center of the small, wilderness community of Chicken Alaska. In addition to the 70 sites (20 or 30 amp) which have picnic tables and fire rings, there is a water fill-up station, dump station and clean showers.

CGC also provides cabins and rooms with various combinations of single to king beds. There is a restaurant, serving home made entries, beer and wine, and an espresso bar serving fine Alaska roasted coffee, smoothies/frosts and hand-dipped ice cream.

CGC also offers an excellent gift store and gallery showcasing Alaska and Yukon native art & crafts as well as Chicken-themed items, a wide selection of jewelry, pottery, clothing, hand-made knives, ulus, prints and original paintings, collectables, etc.

Daily tours of the Pedro dredge and the accompanying historical gold mining display are provided. CGC has also been one of the few places in Alaska to offer recreational gold mining (from gold panning to suction dredging), including equipment rentals and free instruction. Gold panning and free lessons are offered on location at stand up troughs.

FREE WiFi is provided throughout the park, on the decks and in the restaurant. FREE firewood is included with camping. Kayak rentals are available for use on the nearby Fortymile Wild & Scenic River.

Very interesting stop

Found this to be a fun stop, photo ops everywhere. Kids loved it and did some gold panning. Gift shop had great selection. Quite a good time and we will be stopping again.

I'm not sure I'd make a special trip to Chicken, although I know a lot of people do. It's a bit out of the way unless you are going to pan for gold, visit Eagle or Dawson City. However, if you happen to be in the area the soup and sandwiches are really good, and the gift store has a... More

There are 3 parts to Chicken. The first one has a gift store with lots of tee shirts. Great selection and prices. Don't camp here, the campsite is rough. The second entrance by the dredge is where you want to camp. Beautiful spot. Showers are expensive though and a very short 5 mins. There is also a gift shop and... More

We left Tok heading to Dawson City, YT and stopped here on the way (the only place you can stop) and explored the area. Great history and stories abound about the gold rush and what the early pioneers did to survive and hopefully find pay dirt. The hole community is great. Lots to see and enjoy a remote location.

The Gold Camp & Outpost is a great stop along the Taylor Highway and it's great to learn why the town's called Chicken. The gold aspect is great too, adding to an exciting trip to Alaska!

The gift shop was full of Alaska made items at very reasonable prices. We ate lunch of a half sandwich and soup of the day, which was Chicken Tortilla Soup. The food was fresh made and delicious. We highly recommend checking this business out when you get a chance to visit Chicken Alaska.

They had closed early the night before, so we had to wait until they opened the next morning in order to be able to see inside. Most things were quite expensive. No food items here.

Roberta- Your visit to Chicken was a little late...we had already closed for the season. You were able to "see inside" because we were here doing year-end inventory. We do serve meal, espresso, baked goods, etc, but only when we are officially open. We set ourselves apart from other area businesses as we handle many high quality, authentic Alaska items,... More

We had a great time in this unique place in Alaska. We spent the night. A moose was next to our campsite. We shopped in the gift shop buying chicken feed that was guaranteed to have gold in it. We ate breakfast and saw about a music fest in June called Chickenstock that looked like it would be a hoot... More

The store is part museum that should not be missed. There are several original items that show how people lived or transported their supplies. The pictures show how placer mining was done before gold dredge #4 came to Chicken. Even if you have seen other gold dredges you need to go through the Yuba dredge #4. Yuba has been in... More

Was there end of may 2015 with an RV. The camp is clean, the washrooms are nice, you have Wifi (limited) but the reception-staff could be more friendly. I don't know if I landed just in the coffee-break but.... could be better. The Shop and Bar is more touristic than I like, prefer the original a few hundred meters away.

We are always working on being better, but your reference to a "bar" is misleading as there is only one bar in town which is across the street. And your reference to "touristy stuff" in our gift store seems out of place as most of our offerings are Alaska hand-made items by talented, small business people from around the State....not...
