This old Russian Orthodox village houses a unique cemetery, in which each grave is surrounded by a small, decorative burial house. One of the region's oldest buildings, a church built of logs, was constructed before 1870.

I loved this place. For $5, you get a thorough grounding in the history of the Orthodox Church in Alaska, and this site specifically. That's before you even get to check out the spirit houses. For anyone interested in the history of the area, or...More

Been here a couple times we took the tour surprisingly interesting and a little weird.. spirit houses? Not my cup of tea but worth a little time but not a separate trip.

Basically a drive through a small community of limited historical significance. This community does feature a traditional Athabaskan/Russian Orthodox cemetery. This was a traditional native village, but little remains of the old buildings. If you are driving by this is worth about 15 minutes. There...More

While this isn't your conventional tourist trap, this historical site sheds a great deal of beauty and insight upon the intersection of multiple cultures. This historical significance alone is justification for a visit, but the cultural curiosity prompted my wife and I to capture the...More

I don't usually like "fake" cultural villages. However, this was really worth seeing. Usually, these places give me more info than I want. This was a perfect mixture of past and present with knowledgable guides and time to explore on our own. Everyone was very...More

The historical park is relatively tiny. However, for history lovers this is worth a stop. You can take a self guided tour or a volunteer member of the Russian Orthodox Church (yes the New Saint Nicholas Church at the site is still active) will give...More

While driving North from Anchorage the Eklutna cemetery is well worth visiting. You'll see spirit houses that combine Alaska Native and Russian Orthodox traditions. This is a 15-20 minute stop.

This place was just off the Glenn Highway. We pulled into the parking lot and went into the gift shop where a docent gave us a tour of the cemetery. She was a member of the church there and gave us a very interesting tour...More
