I first visited the museum in Jan. 1970, admission was $.50, while on a business trip. Again visited with my wife in Oct. 2006, admission was $6.50, was looking tacky and had not appeared to have changed in 36 years, Too bad. In 1970 there were very few attractions for visitors, my guide finished the tour with a visit to... More

As the title says, it's closed for renovation as of our visit in October 2016. There was no information on the door as to when it is scheduled to reopen.

Asked our guide to take us there but he told us it has been closed for almost 4 years. The attached gardens are in poor condition due to lack of maintenance. The 2 Galapagos turtles are still there but sadly, one had his legs injured by pit bull dogs and apparently has never fully recovered.

The Tahiti brochure that was given to me by the car rental company in Papeete advertises this out of town museum as still operating. It is not. I drove up the lovely curved driveway to find the museum doors padlocked and a 'closed for renovation' sign displayed. The building looked like it had been abandoned for a while and I... More

Sad to read so many attractions are now closed. having not read these posts, I drove to museum May 10th. It is no longer. A young security guard said the president closed it, removed all art and it's fate unknown. The land is prime real estate on the ocean. You can walk amongst the abandoned buildings but its just a... It appears that most of the main artefacts have been sent back to France for restoration but the adjacent restaurant is still open for business and seems to cater a lot for coach tours. It enjoys a great position by the water and the interior of the restaurant is decorated with elaborate floral displays and the attractive waiting staff all... More

We went to see the museum on our circle island drive only to discover that is closed for renovations. We were told later that all the art displayed are reproductions not original. It seems like a reasonable stop if just touring but not worth a destination visit

It's difficult to get the information, but the museum is closed for renovation. The Notte Dame Cathedral is also closed to tourists because of homeless influx. And the James Cook home is closed. The three things I wanted to see on Tahiti!
