Vaapiti
About
Native of Tahiti, I want to share my passion for traditional navigation. Vaapiti is the first double sailing canoe to have obtained all the necessary authorizations to carry out excursions. It took me 4 years to build it. Since 2018, I have had an incredible adventure thanks to all my passengers. Today, I want to share my knowledge and discover the culture of Polynesian sailors with a unique va'a and while respecting the environment.
Moorea, French Polynesia

It was my first excursion whilst in French Polynesia and boy, did we start with a bang! Although I said I would go to the pier on foot from my hotel, they insisted on coming to pick us up from our hotel (and they also brought us back). The pirogue is very nice, you can see it’s the work of love from the owner. The places we visited were stunning – we had a drift snorkel with turtles, then moved on to a beautiful coral garden (home to a very big moray eel) and a beautiful spot with lots of sharks and stingrays (which I chose not to touch) -- we even saw lots of spinning dolphins on the way! It was a beautiful half-day with a small group and a crew that seemed to be very passionate about their work and the ocean – not to miss if you are in Moorea!

Had an amazing memorable morning lagoon tour with Vaapiti very recently - captained by Roland and his very capable and friendly crew member (who I’m so sorry I can’t recall her name!) They were able to accommodate us at short
notice when the tour we’d arranged with another operator was cancelled last minute (that happened to us a few times on this trip to French Polynesia! It was fortunate that there were such good alternatives available). There were 6 guests on this tour and the crew moved seamlessly from French to English to make us all feel included. The catamaran is beautiful and comfortable, the treats were delicious and the experiences unforgettable. The care that the crew take with looking after the lagoon is also really special. Highly recommended.

Lovely trip in a beautiful canoe to explore the waters off Moorea. We paid extra for transport from our resort. Then we boarded the canoe to enjoy our journey in a small friendly group. The crew was great and helpful. There were several stops on our trip and each was fun and informative. Some friendly stingrays and sharks came to visit us. The sunset was amazing.

Amazing family run business. Their love for tradition, sailing, history and sharing Moorea came through in every way. Very knowledgeable and eager to share. Could not recommend them higher.

Loved this outing. The captain shared lots of history and took us to two snorkeling spots. We were lucky that the water was calmer than usual, so we did full sail out in blue water. I even got to sail/surf a wave as we came back into the channel - what a fabulous experience! Dolphins, turtles, fishies, rays, sharks and a phenomenal sunset.

Had a really wonderful time on the catamaran. The snorkel with the stingrays was superb, stroking them as they came for a regular feed. Then to underwater sculptures and finally a lovely sail with hands on instruction by the very nice brothers who looked after us every minute of the half day. A highlight of our entire Society Island trip

Great wind for sailing. JR was our guide and he took us outside the reef where we had the opportunity to surf the waves back in. Great, unique sailing experience with a fabulous view of a rainbow 🌈 over the mountains and an amazing sunset. We snacked on a platter of local fruits and got to swim with sharks and pet stingrays which was awesome. As a former tour guide, I hate touristy stuff. I loved this tour because it was a raw experience without being water down by westernized over precaution.

This tour is not ADA accessible. You will need to have a reasonable level of fitness to participate. It may not be ideal for small children and is probably best suited for ages 5+.

We had an amazing excursion with Vaapiti. They picked us up at the hotel and went to the boat. We caught a couple fish, we saw a whale, and we even had a pod of dolphins swim around the boat. They provided us a tray full of fresh fruit. It was all amazing. The two brothers running the operation are very skilled watermen and very kind. It was a treat to spend a few hours with them in their boat.
