About Vaapiti
google
Native of Tahiti, I want to share my passion for traditional navigation. Vaapiti is the first double-handed pirogue to have obtained all the necessary authorizations to carry out excursions. It took me 4 years of construction, I sailed with it for 2 years in Polynesia. Today, I want to share my knowledge and discover the culture of Polynesian navigators with a unique va'a and respect for the environment.

Great wind for sailing. JR was our guide and he took us outside the reef where we had the opportunity to surf the waves back in. Great, unique sailing experience with a fabulous view of a rainbow 🌈 over the mountains and an amazing sunset. We snacked on a platter of local fruits and got to swim with sharks and pet stingrays which was awesome. As a former tour guide, I hate touristy stuff. I loved this tour because it was a raw experience without being water down by westernized over precaution. This tour is not ADA accessible. You will need to have a reasonable level of fitness to participate. It may not be ideal for small children and is probably best suited for ages 5+.

We had an amazing excursion with Vaapiti. They picked us up at the hotel and went to the boat. We caught a couple fish, we saw a whale, and we even had a pod of dolphins swim around the boat. They provided us a tray full of fresh fruit. It was all amazing. The two brothers running the operation are very skilled watermen and very kind. It was a treat to spend a few hours with them in their boat.

We were drawn to the experience Vaapiti offered, sailing on a self-made "canoe', snorkeling, and learning about the Polynesian culture. The brothers Rafael and JR, both born and raised on Moorea, were a great team. They were fantastic guides and were great with our 13yr and 9yr boys. We finished the excursion knowing that was going to be a highlight and memory for life.

The other reviewers have summed up this tour perfectly. The only thing I will add is that we chose this tour because we love to sail and this was a completely different sailing experience! Thank you for allowing us the pleasure to share your amazing boat and passion for navigation and the sea!

Sun wasn’t necessarily out all the time but what a great experience! Raphael and Roland know their island and traditions! We’ve learnt a lot in between snorkeling With turtles, tikis, rays and sharks! Just loved it to take time and learn hot to sail a traditional pirogue!!
