We visited Taha'a while sailing in the Society Islands. Perhaps the best day of our trip was the day we spent with Yvann allowing him to share just how magical his home island is. In short Yvann could not have been a better guide. He showed us more in six hours than we could have ever imagined from how to make a flute from a tree branch to how all the fauna can and is used by the local population. He was such an amazing guide five stars doesn't begin to give him enough credit...I wish I could leave ten.

The boat ride from Raiatea to Tahaa was outright dangerous. The operator took us through a storm. The hard rain was blowing sideways. No lifejackets! I was afraid of lightning, the boat tipping, and neck injury from the rough ride. At the plantation, I was told $7US cash or credit card for 2 small packets of vanilla. . Not having the correct change, I used a credit card. I was charged in the local currency, Instead of seeing approximately $7US on my account, I was charged $65US. I'm still disputing this with my bank. So far Valee de Vanille is saying since I signed the charge, I should pay.
DO NOT USE A CREDIT CARD AT THIS PLANTATION. Better yet, do not do business with a company that cheats tourists.

We were in French Polynesia for a week on a cruise and spent most of the time snorkeling different locations. The so called Taha'a "Coral Garden's" was the worst snorkeling experience we have ever had. We purchased a "drift snorkeling" excursion with temaranui--what a mistake. The tour guide was very poor and didn't seem to care when so much of our private group came back with coral cuts all over legs and arms. The "drift" was more like a speedway through very shallow coral mazes with very few fish and almost no color to speak of. To say it wasn't worth it is an understatement, especially after seeing so much better coral and fish at other sights like in Bora Bora. The guide seemed more put out that he had to find some bandaids for everyone than about the poor experience. We are experienced snorkelers but you had to be on his fins to follow any path through the coral that was deep enough not to be cut by the coral and in a rushing shallow water stream. What a wasted. My husband had cuts on his legs and arm for the rest of the cruise from this experience. Don't waste your time at Taha'a or its snorkeling.

We stayed in Taha'a only, and unfortunately, one night and we could have done our holidays without visiting it. The island doesn't have any beach, the only chance to find one is to stay on a private motu which means spending a lot of money for the resort. We were expecting definitely something more than just a jungle and the road around it on a Polynesian island.

we had 2 guides with 8 of us in a 4x4 vehicle. They were so entertaining and knowledgeable. We also learned some of the Tahitian dances, how to make a flute, and about some of the plants. The vanilla plantation and Black Pearl Farm were amazing!

Taha'a is quiet, small and largely unspoilt - our favourite of the five Society islands that we visited. Tour was relaxed, thorough and informative. Vanilla plantation was particularly interesting; not so much the pearl farm as there are so many of these in French Polynesia and they all tell the same story.

Well worth your time. Our tour leader was Aro! He added special insights beyond visits to the pearl farm and vanilla farm tours. Highly recommend.

Quite comprehensive. Visited and enjoyed the information at the Motu Pearl Farm(separate write up), amazed by the detailed cultivation and laborious processing of vanilla beans at Vallee de la Vanille plantation. Stopped at the restoration of a family Marae, started in 2008/2009; about 25-30 family/extended family members have assisted since the start, coming from Samoa, New Zealand, Tuamotos, Hawaii. Learned about the copra drying process and its contribution to the local economy. Our guide was excellent, with a sense of humor, and originally from the Marquesas. He is a tattooist, and explained the importance of tattoos as part of Polynesian culture. Our 4-4.5 hour tour flew by. Consider this a "must do" on Tahaa.

After anchoring directly next to La Perla de Tahaa we sailed north to visit the spectacular chain of Motus just north of Taha. With Taha being the only Society Island on can circumnavigate by boat inside the reef this was almost a must do. These beautiful Motus are lined up like a chain of pearls on an invisible string. The drone pictures say it all

I'd recommend this for anyone who makes their way to this island. This place is kind of remote, but hey - the tour was great!
