I'd heard that there was a lady who met the Tustumena & took people in her 10 seater bus to visit the WWII sites in Dutch Harbor. I didn't know the name of the tour & hadn't booked anything. Still, as we tied up at...More
We were in Unalaska (Dutch Harbor) in late July for a rather short time but did have time for a tour of the area. We chose Extra Mile Tours with our tour guide and owner, Bobbie Lekanoff. She has been in Dutch Harbor since the...More
This tour is extraordinary, and highly recommended. Bobbi combines anthropological, personal, naturalistic and astute commentary to every bend and detour throughout her trails through Unalaska. Treat yourself, if you want! Such wisdom and beauty is not to be missed!
Bobbie knows it all and is eager to share. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. It was tailored to each of us. Historian, birder, naturalist... some of each was on the tour and we were all happy! We learned the complete story of the ww2 out...More

We took the Alaska Marine Highway out to Dutch Harbor for an overnight stay. Bobbie was incredible in her knowledge of the area - World War II sites, Deadliest Catch information, local history, flavor, and culture.
We had communicated with her for about two months...More

It took her three months to answer my inquiry. I asked twice in December and heard from her end of March by email. Also, she did not answer messages I had left on her phone. It seems that this is how some things “work” in Alaska. From the last email, it was resolved quickly into a tour. She also sent me helpful info that I had not asked for. Her tour was very good. She also gave a larger tour the day before to ferry passengers who were not staying over. She mentioned that she was strongly considering retiring the following season. It was not definite. Keep trying! She is worth the effort. Also at the WW2 visitor center, there is a free booklet that has ALL the sites on the island if you have a car. It includes all the spots Bobbie goes to, but with less colorful commentary than Bobbie.
