I went chasing waterfalls while visiting Anchorage and found Barbara Falls also known as South Fork Falls in Eagle River. The drive there was very nice, seen 2 moose on the side of the road munching away on willows. I took the suggestion of another reviewer on here and hung a right before the bridge, came to the base of the Falls which was a short, beautiful hike. I also took the high road after for more pics. Nice, easy thing to do with or without freinds or family. I loved it!

These frozen waterfalls were absolutely incredible. Water was flowing behind the frozen waterfall. Unbelievable photo opportunity. We payed close attention to the No Parking Sign placement on the street and had no issues parking. There is a gate at the entrance that will deter you from going onto the path but that it the correct place to enter. The lower path to the waterfall is to the right just before the bridge. The upper path to the waterfall is beyond the bridge, turn right at the sign and follow the path right once again.

Title pretty much says it all. The walk out to the viewpoint is an easy half mile. The views were really nice, and it's well-posted which areas to stay out of so you can stay on the trail and not wander off onto someones private property. The bugs are horrendous so you definitely want to make sure you use bug spray before setting out. Next time I will hike the lower trail to see the falls from below.

The trailhead for Barbara Falls (South Fork Falls) in Eagle River is about a half hour from downtown Anchorage. It's a short trail to a viewpoint of the falls. There's another short, but more rocky trail with roots, that takes you to the base of the falls. The views from down here were even more beautiful. The trail to the base of the falls can easily be missed; it's right by the bridge, on the right hand side as you are heading to the falls. Recommended!

We ran into a local on another hike we were doing. We told them we were going to Thunder Falls. He suggested this one. It was gorgeous. When you get to the bridge, right before it you hike along the water to bottom of falls. To get to the top follow the trail across the bridge. The hike is easy

Short walk, once you find where it is in the subdivision. Awesome water flow, moderate trail (roots, water edge) but nil elevation, and a very nice waterfall, two plums.
It's awesome and so much better than thunderbird, which is an easy trail but disappointing at arrival.

Such a beautiful site to see. Easy trail for non-hikers wanting to get out of town a bit. Easy to follow trail; just stay off private property adjacent to trail. It is well posted where NOT to go.

Great place but this is South Fork Falls, and always has been. The Barbara falls thing is a trick by some locals. LOL
