The trail is very well maintained and the hike is not very steep. Lots of bear scat but no bears were seen

The scenery in this park is beyond gorgeous. We were fortunate to see some native wildlife that we don't have at home.

Very nice area. We visited near the portage glacier and found beautiful views and trails.
There is one trail that takes you back to the glacier.

It's Alaska! Get outdoors and hike! We enjoyed being able to hike on and off the beaten paths that Alaska has to offer.

You'll enjoy the view better from on top of the mountain. Our guide ensured we'd love the view. I was so in awe of being on the mountain.

Can it all be seen in like 4-5 hrs?

No, the Chugach State Park is huge. Try to find a map of the park and then pinpoint areas of interest to you. There are several pocket-sized trail guides that will provide details of the various trails -- distance, difficulty level, how much time to allow, etc. I found these trail guides in convenience stores, bookstores, and touristy shops. Some may be found at park visitors' centers (however, many areas of the park are unmanned by park rangers, so get a map before you head out.) If you are hiking, be sure to carry adequate water with you. When we hiked several trails, we saw abundant wildlife nearby, including moose and bears. So, be aware of your surroundings and cautious at all times. If you have limited time, I would recommend the Lake Eklutna area (north of Anchorage). It is a beautiful lake, with several trails available. The lakeside trail is an easy hike, but long. The Twin Peaks trail affords some beautiful views of the lake, but it is rated difficult -- and it is. However, if you want to try that trail, be aware that the viewpoint from about halfway up the trail -- there is a benchseat there at a curve in the trail -- is nearly as good as the view from the top of the trail. If you stop at that point, you will get a great view and will not wear yourself out climbing the remainder of the steep trail, which ends with scrambling over rocks and tundra at the top. It is on this trail that a moose crossed our trail early on, and then later on the steep part we saw two bear cubs and a mama bear frolicking on a nearby rise. It is a good idea to wear bear bells and carry bear spray along with you if you decide to climb to the top of this trail.

will visit Chugach in Aug 15. Can anyone suggest a raft float that's not too boring but does not require a practice swim?
