You may have camped in some pretty great places, but Chilkat State Park, located near the southern end of Chilkat Peninsula south of Haines, Alaska, is absolutely fabulous. The campsites are spacious and tree-sheltered, set far enough apart to offer privacy. There is beach access,...More
Getting there required going over a gravel road full of very deep potholes then going down a very steep hill with sharp switch back turns. Twice as bad coming back out. Use 4 wheel drive (if you have it ) to make the climb easier...More
We ended our day in Chilkat State Park after exploring north of Haines. A really beautiful park with camp sites, boat ramp and a picnic area. We enjoyed a break in the picnic area viewing the glacier as various wildlife. Seeing mountains rise from sea...More

My nephew had his wedding ceremony at this park, on a gorgeous point of rock we had to make a short hike to reach. It was well worth it--Rainbow Glacier and its waterfall were the backdrop as they made their vows.
