We had spent several days in Haines and decided to try the ferry for getting to Skagway in a more timely manner than driving. (It saved us a full day of driving and at least one full tank of gas...so one must evaluate the cost...More
We took this ferry pulling a 31 ft. RV. When we purchased the tickets (over the phone) we did not list the length of the RV correctly. When we arrived we were told we were not sure if we would fit and if it did...More
What a great way to see the Lynn Canal! You will see all sorts of marine life, eagles, maybe a pod of orcas or humpback whales, sea lions, seals and sea birds. Only bad weather will make this trip less than great!
It seemed somewhat disorganized but there was always a ferry to take you back and forth from Haines to Skagway without much wait. I can not speak to cost as it was included in both of the tours we did that used this service. In...More
This ferry ride was beautifully picturesque with waterfalls and hillsides tumbling into the fiord. The ferry was stable, fast and had big windows for viewing. Wonderful way to get to our tour of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve.

We took the Fast Ferry over to Haines and the slow Ferry back as we wanted to site see along the way. We took the train trip for the day and it was well worth it. But we were not on a cruise so we had no specific schedule to adhere too. I don't know if you can do all in one day. I would definitely confirm your ferry reservation departure and arrival times as well as train departure and arrival times to insure you are not cutting it too close. Traveling on our own we had a lot more flexibility to take some jaunts without time restrictions.
