Took the trip from Haines to Juneau on a Friday morning and returned on Saturday night and stayed with friends overnight. Plenty of detours in both direction for wildlife and historical artifacts. Fairly smooth sailing but our friends reported a rough passage with passengers being...More
This ferry ride was beautifully picturesque with waterfalls and hillsides tumbling into the fiord. The ferry was stable, fast and had big windows for viewing. Wonderful way to get to our tour of the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve.
I was expecting this HSFF to be primarily transportation from Haines to Skagway and was pleasantly surprised with one of the crew members provided an excellent and informative dialog regarding the features viewable along the way. By pointing out the various glaciers, waterfalls and important...More

Took the fairway from the cruise port in Skagway to Haines. The water was quite choppy but the captain kept the boat steady and it didn't seem rough at all. Naturalist on the Ferry was very knowledgeable.

We took the Fast Ferry over to Haines and the slow Ferry back as we wanted to site see along the way. We took the train trip for the day and it was well worth it. But we were not on a cruise so we had no specific schedule to adhere too. I don't know if you can do all in one day. I would definitely confirm your ferry reservation departure and arrival times as well as train departure and arrival times to insure you are not cutting it too close. Traveling on our own we had a lot more flexibility to take some jaunts without time restrictions.
