I had a wonderful short trip to this center. The staff was very informative and the displays are very well done. Gives you a great overview of the area and also introduces you to the other visitors facilities the state runs. Could spend more time. They have a very large screen room and several different documentaries run throughout the day.

The Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center should be included as a part of your day in Homer. You can probably spend about an hour at the Center and spend as long as you like on the Bishop Beach walk. (Tides permitting) The Center is not a large venue, but the information and artifacts are well displayed and interesting at... More

The Island and Ocean Visitors Centre is an interactive museum and information centre. It is well set out with interesting displays that attracted the children. They loved answering questions and seeing if they were correct. Leading from the centre is a boardwalk to the beach. There are many different birds to be seen and even the possibility of a moose.... Islands and Oceans is a small center with a few displays. They tell the story of settling here in Homer and the hardships that followed. They also have a trail that you can walk easily that will take out on the slough

This interesting museum covers human and natural history, including damage from wars and takeovers, and wildlife refuges and restoration in the Aluetians, some of which seemed like cool places to go visit. Takes 1-2 hours.
