It was interesting to see where the show is filmed. Otto was wandering around and is a very interesting guy just like the way he appears on the show. Hard to get to if you have anything but a car or pickup. No campers on...More

We had the opportunity to visit the Homestead. We had a personal 1-on-1 experience with Stella Vera Kilcher . She is a daughter of Yule and Ruth Kilcher. Stella Vera is a very spiritual and energetic woman. I think she has adopted her parents and...More

After taking the tour the show doesn't seem as contrived to me. These folks are trying to maintain the homestead way of life even though they are only 13 miles up Katchemac Bay from Homer. The formal part of the tour took place inside the...More

This is an invitation event. The homestead takes you back in time to when people from other regions and countries settled in the area of Kachemak Bay. The Kiltcher Homestead is about 10 miles east of Homer off on Kiltcher road which is gravel and...More

Excellent slant on the Kilchers from Mike husband of StellaVera one of the 6 daughters. Leaned a lot, he bragged up Otto but ignored Atz which left me curious as to why. He seems to think the daughters contribution to the homestead has yet to...More

There is usually a tour every day except Sunday at 11am sure no the summer. It is a good idea to call ahead to make sure something isn’t happening to change that schedule if your set on a specific date. 907-235-8713

There are a couple of local taxis but no idea about the cost. Many people have done the round trip thing though.
