Mendenhall is beautiful

Take the trail that goes ABOVE the visitor center. It leads to the glacier away from the short trek packed with visitors at the valley floor.

Please check in with rangers or our map to get directions. It is not possible to hike to the glacier from the visitor center -- unless you cross a big creek and climb a large mountain. No trail exists beyond Nugget Creek. You can get to the glacier via West Glacier Trail, however, located a few miles from the visitor... More

As soon as we got off the ship we originally went to rent a vehicle. The rental place had no employees as they had to go to the airport to get more vehicles. We went back to the docks and decided to take the "blue bus" to Mendenhall. We quickly got on the bus and the trip wasn't that long.... More

Did the helicopter tour from the Celebrity Infinity cruise ship. There was six of us and after giving weight details was minibused to the helicopter area at the airport. Our change of clothes was waiting for us so we put on the thick clothes and ski boots and had a quick safety briefing before boarding the helicopter. We had a... More

Go see the glacier! Lots to see and learn. It is a sight to see. The path system takes one to a great spot for photos and also to a just amazing waterfall. It was like a postcard. The visitors center and viewing spot was informative and had spotting scopes for up close views.

Spent around an hour or so here.Walked to Photo Point and took lots of Pictures.both the Glacier and the Waterfall are quite neat. Try and go,on a sunny clear day so,you can see all the Glacier. Would of been nice to grab a Coffee here after walking around in the cold for so long, however nothing here but the Visitor... More

Last summer we visited Mendenhall glacier. We actually visited on two separate day. The walk to the glacier is beautiful and not too tough. The first day we decided to do the west glacier trail. It was beautiful and well visited. On a separate day, we completed the East glacier trail. That one is much more tough... (not for beginners...... More

An easy to arrange bus ride from Juneau (don't bother with an expensive organised tour) takes you to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Centre and then it is a pleasant hike to the water fall and glacier. The visitor centre is nice with good, informative displays, a shop, telescopes provided for close up views and most importantly, very helpful, courteous and... More

Lot's of great trails and fantastic view of the Glacier for free or next to free. The rangers were all friendly and great at engaging my kids.

Hi, Danielle! Thanks for your kind words. We love being thought of as a national park but we are actually your nation's largest national forest, the Tongass National Forest. Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center is the shining star within the forest. Come back again! More
