We did this hike while on a cruise stop in Ketchikan. This is a great option for skipping the usual excursions available on cruise ships. Take a cab to the trailhead, it's worth spending a few extra bucks as the walk to the trailhead is...More

The trail is well marked and has nice variation from forest to montane. You do need a reasonable level of fitness as there are some steep bits.

We were in Ketchikan for one day on a cruise and were able to complete this hike with lots of time to spare. The trail is well marked, but rocky in places. We had hiking poles, which were very useful on the way down. Recommended...More

This track is not for the faint hearted. It is not a well maintained track so in some places you are climbing up stoney paths and tree roots. It is very steep but well wrothy the effort.

We do this hike every visit to KTN. It is beautiful but a lot of up hill. Views along the way are amazing. Take water and wear good walking shoes. Will be muddy and slippery in some places if it has rained recently.

From the cruise ship, we took the free shuttle to Totem Heritage Center and walked to Deer Mountain Trail. It was raining and we didn't reach a lookout point after 1 hour of hiking, and we saw quite a few people turning back without reaching...More

We started hiking this trail too early @6:30am. Took a cab from the cruise ship to the trail head, $8 each way. Definitely not a easy hike. Since we started too early, there wasn't anyone else on the trail which made my husband think it...More

Some references refer to the Deer Mountain trail as a easy hike, but that is not the case. The average person will take just about three hours to get to the peak which does afford spectacular views of Ketchikan and all the way to Canada...More
