We had a stopover at this place while driving from Denali to Fairbanks. Other than ours, there were dozens of tour buses too. It's not a special place, very amateurish indeed, run by the locals. The exhibition about natives' life and history is very unprofessional. It's obvious this place is used only as a stopover, to have something to drink,... More

I very much enjoyed my visit to the cultural center. There are some good artifacts depicting local history. I could use some better organization/flow, but not so much as to take away from the local flavor. What stood out to me most though was the hospitality of the curator and locals who dropped in. I could have hung around there... More

The Alfred Starr Cultural Center & Museum is definitely worth a visit. It is on many of the tour bus agendas as they stop in Nenana to take-a-break driving North to Fairbanks and maybe driving South to Denali National Park and Anchorage. My wife and I greatly enjoyed the time we spent at the center.

This small but interesting Alaskan museum features Native Alaskan history, culture, artifacts, dog racing history, and even sled dog rides on the premises. My husband loved playing with the puppies. There was a donation jar (the museum is free) to help feed the puppies, so we left a donation. The furs, old photos, and native bead work were very interesting.... More

Ok, it's not the British Museum. But it's interesting for the local history, for some specific people stories, for the ice breaking history, for the 800 miles race, for the historical part on First Nations rights. Well, it you happen to be in Nenana, take the time to go there. Plus it's free, no regrets if you were not to... More

We stopped in Nenana because my husband watches the Alaskan TV shows and he has seen the bridge over the river. I had read about the Cultural Center. We stopped and the worker on the porch immediately invited us in for a cup of coffee. We talked with a fellow outside who happened to be a cousin to one of... More

This is a very small museum, and there were 3 tour buses there when we visited. There is no entrance fee. The displays, including many old photos, were very interesting. Talk to the staff, they know their community history and as one said, are related to half the folks in town. In Alaska, often the most unforgettable experiences are through... More

Some history here that is local oriented. We found this an interesting museum but expected that the staff would have more knowledge of the history. Some education is necessary in our view for some of the staff, at least the ones we spoke to. Clean layout and the washrooms were clean as well.

Visiting this Center is like visiting next-door neighbors, and sharing in their memories, with newspaper articles and family photo albums. This is not a big-city museum; this is personal and real. The gift shop features items from postcards to bead-craft jewelry to furs. There is information about WWII Native veterans; there are nature artifacts like a bag made from a... More

Totally unique as is Nenana AK and very interesting to see the history here! Lots of original black and white pics and authentic display of local history so unique to this small town...We were wanting to spend more time here actually after Claude gave us a personal tour. Check out the gift shop with handmade local craft! My find here... More
