Unique Opportunity to See Musk Ox Up Close
This was such a great opportunity to learn more about musk oxen. The farm is specifically a fiber farm and the gift store sells amazing skeins of both pure quviut and blends. Our guide was both knowledgeable and personable. She walked us through the farm talking about both the individual musk ox and their personalities and the farm practices. I will definitely be back with my visitors. Make reservations directly on their website. It's an easy drive to Palmer from Anchorage and the farm is easy to find from their directions.

    A must-visit attraction in Alaska!
Wow! My friends and I were blown away with how much we enjoyed our tour. The staff were so welcoming and knowledgable. They know each musk ox by name and personality and shared lots of fun stories (such as how they often are escape artists!). They even have a mini museum with cool musk ox artifacts. The gift shop had fun (and reasonably priced) souvenirs for all interests. I highly recommend visiting this farm to anyone visiting Alaska. You will learn a lot, meet some spunky musk ox, and support a nonprofit organization that is immensely passionate about their animals.

    Great Guided Tour
We really enjoyed seeing the different musk-ox at this very well ran historical farm. There were four babies that stole the show! A guide takes you on a 45 minute guided tour around the different pastures. Our guide knew the names of most of the musk-ox and the unique attributes of each. Great tour! Bring your money because the gift shop has very nice items.

Make sure you visit the Musk Ox Farm if you are in the Palmer/Wasilla area
We arrived at the Musk Ox Farm late in the afternoon and were warmly greeted and taken on a tour by Vivian, a retired English professor. We enjoyed having a few minutes to look around the gift shop and visit with the staff. We were taken around the farm and introduced from a distance to most of the musk ox, including the babies. Unfortunately, it rained during most of our tour. It was so amazing to learn about these mammals who have braved the elements and survived for 10,000+ years and to imagine that they used to walk in the same space as the woolly mammoths and the sabertooth tigers. The setting was idyllic with lush grasses surrounded by mountain ranges. I highly recommend that you devote an hour or so of your travel time to a tour of this farm.

Only chance to ever see a musk ox!
First off, I need to say that I'm not a huge fan of seeing animals in captivity. Whether it be a zoo, a drive through safari type environment, even a rescue and rehabilitation. My preference is always to see wild animals in their natural habitat, totally independent of human beings. But I've never seen a musk ox and it's highly unlikely that I will ever see one in the wild. So I made an exception. What a great experience! I learned a lot about them in general as well as how they lives in captivity differ from in the wild and the impact those variations have on their lives and life spans. It was a great experience at a very reasonable cost. Everyone was friendly, knowledgeable, and engaging. Ample parking suitable for oversized vehicles. Highly recommended.

Coming from an agricultural background, my husband and I both enjoyed learning about the ins and outs of musk ox farming. Our tour was just us and a small family so we were able to ask a lot of questions which the staff member who showed us around knew all the answers to! The staff member was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the domestication process of these animals. We greatly appreciated the opportunity to tour the farm and see some history in the making. Not to mention the ride from Anchorage was beautiful, so this was the perfect detour for our vacation!

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. I have been wanting to see these animals up close and was able to do that. The store has a nice variety of yarns and gifts. There is also a small museum that they are just starting to put together and there were a few artifacts to see for now. They have 81 musk ox there of various ages. Qiviut, musk ox underwool is 8 times warmer than sheep’s wool and one of the softest fibers. These animals weigh between 500 to 800 lbs., live between 12 and 20 years and are between 4 to 5 ft tall.

It was wonderful to see these animals; however, the tour was somewhar annoying. My group was completely full, and you are asked not to separate from your group, so you are stuck for an hour with people you dont care for, and have to digest prinitive information, useless questions and dtupid jokes. Unfortunately, other ways to see musk oxen are not available, so bring earphones to tune out the guide and group.
You will not be able to get nearly as close to animals as you will be to members of your grouo, and you should consider bringing appropriate footwear to walk in the mud on the farm.

This is a guided walk around the fenced areas where the musk oxen live. The tour guide was very informative and the walk was easy. I knew nothing about musk oxen, so all information was welcome. The staff were very accommodating. There is a requirement to schedule a tour, but they work to accommodate. We arrived late for our tour. We had informed them we would be late, so they were quite willing to change our time. Further, when a number of people accumulated waiting for the 2 PM scheduled tour, they did an extra one before 2 to limit the waiting time while still conducting the scheduled 2 PM tour. The walk is easy on an reasonably regular train, although there are some modest slopes involved. I am unsure about it's accommodation for wheel chairs and walkers, so I would check when I made the reservation if I wanted to be sure about accessibility.

This is a no brainer to visit when in the area. Very informative and fun, the price is very reasonable for a 45 minute tour and talk about these amazing creatures. Seniors were $12 and I think non-seniors were $14. Well worth the money to get a close up look and learn about animals that you would never see otherwise.

After visiting the reindeer farm, which we loved, the visit to the musk ox farm was very disappointing. Our guide, while obviously extremely knowledgeable about the animals, offered no cohesive story to the farm. She was able to effectively answer any questions that were put forth, but there was no scripted talk. No interaction with the animals as they can be aggressive. All in all, was a boring stop for our family.

I rate this very good because it was a bit underwhelming. The "tour" was not so interesting. It would have been amazing to walk the trails to view the animals on our own. Because we had to stay together, everyone was in the way for photos. I was excited to see musk ox for the first time! The gift shop is really expensive $$$$$. I understand it's rare and just know it is a splurge if you buy any products there. The animals are not accustomed to people so they walk off, I had much better photos and more animals at the conservation center.

We were four adults and we visited the farm in August. I scheduled the tour online while in the car on the way to the farm from Anchorage which worked out well so that we could organize our day. None of us knew anything about musk oxen and we soaked up all of the information offered by our energetic and informative guide. After an hour that went by too fast, we left with an appreciation for these beautiful, gentle, fascinating creatures that stole our hearts.

We visited the Musk Ox Farm the same day we visited the Independence Gold Mine and visited a sled dog facility. We needed reservations for all three and all were located within about an hour of Anchorage. Tour was very factual and group was small. They have a nice gift shop.

We enjoyed our visit to the Musk Ox farm. We didn’t make a reservation in advance and just missed the tour but they were kind enough to start a tour for us instead of having us wait an hour for the next tour. The guide provides a lot of information about the Ox and you are able to get close to take pictures.
