First there are two sides for accessing this butte: One offer steps, the other is more of a grueling hike. I chose the hard way up not realizing the other option was available. Unfortunately the mapping software I used was off as to where to...More

The Bodenburg Butte ("bYOOT") isn't very tall, but it involves around 500 steps up a steep wooden stairway if you up the "easy way" on the east and a series of steep paths/switchbacks if you go up the "hard way" on the south. I've always...More

Climbing the Butte is one of our favorite hikes in the area. It’s only .7 - 1 mile to the top—depending on which side you climb. Once you’ve reached the summit, views on alll sides are breathtaking.

This was a quick hike before heading up to Hatcher pass. Really a great place. A geologist would love it. A bedrock knob smoothed over by glaciers and covered in loess that you can see blowing of the matanuska flood plain. Plus it is a...More

Well it is; but for my 3yr old that's too big to have in a baby pack and too small to hike without his hand held up steep inclines... we made it half way. It IS amazing and worth attempting though. It's my families first...More

My husband and I rode horses from the reindeer farm to the top of this butte. We could see hikers in the distance so you can hike it for free if you wish. You will be rewarded with a beautiful 360 view of the area...More

Ok, reading other review before, I have to add that this hike is not for every one. First you have to find it, look for the West trail, its in a neighborhood. You have to pay parking in a little envelop, so have $5 cash...More

It ended up being an unusually hot day when we hiked the butte. The many stairs at the end left me feeling my calves for a few days afterward. However the views at the top were well worth every step- could see all the way...More

One of the local favorites for a day hike. View at the top is worth the 1 mile + hike up. Trail is well maintained. Stairs in place for the steepest areas to make it easy for all. Fun for children and easy/safe for them...More
