the drum tower can be seen from afar. its impotent structure commands respect. it can be visited in 1 hour or less. you will find local food and bars next to it for a taste of the local cuisine. nothing fancy but clean and cheap.

Another good place if you want to buy Chinese souvenirs. Four roads surrounding the drum tower is full of small shops to buy traditional Chinese gifts for the friends back home.

When we were there at the Drum Tower previously, it wasn't open for visit. As such, we only walked around the tower to take pictures. Around the tower, it's like a flea market where many vendors laid their merchandise on the ground. We did not spend too much time there and continued to walk along the Gulou East Street. Along... I have been to the Drum Tower before but this day was disappointing. First, when I walked up you hear this horrible pop music. I would much prefer to hear Chinese cultural music. Then, as you walk past the vendor stalls, there wasn't much to look at. Plus, there was a lot of construction going on that got in the... More

I had the weekend to myself while being in Tianjin on business, so I thought why not walk and see this city. I cannot say that it's an incredible city, because of the haze, but it's not thaaat bad. So I started by 8 hours walk from this Drum Tower. It really wasn't spectacular, but it got me thinking like... More

The Drum Tower itself is quite interesting and imposing, particularly if you can catch it during one of the festivals when it is likely to be attractively lit and surrounded by market stalls and food stalls. Even on a 'normal' day, the surrounding streets are similar to Ancient Culture Street, offering a range of local, Tianjinese and Chinese goods, mostly... More

I live very close to here and I find it a very dusty dirty area. Personally I think it is better to visit in the evening, the place really comes to life with lots of people sitting out eating. There are your usual over priced tourist stall here and some incredibly expensive furniture shops. The tower itself is nice to... More

Apparently the historic centre of the City. Interesting place, though not obvious that you are allowed to enter. Worth visiting, also for the surrounding streets

An interesting place to visit in itself. It offers a nice view of the city. The nearby "antique" street market is interesting too, and offers some small quite decent restaurants.
