About
About 8 – 9 Km southeast of Sapa town on the west bank of Muong Hoa River, Hang Da is a commune composed by three large villages with over 100 families of the Black H’mong ethnic. From a high point of the main road 8 Km from Sapa town, great view of the whole village open wide to offer the marvelous panorama of the village, backed by high mountains and facing the river.

Very friendly people who have taken to tourism & are eager to support their meagre income by tempting you with their trinkets. No is a word they don't accept easily but they have a good sense of humour & its worth the time to visit.

Hang Da is the real ethnic Sapa experience that you journeyed here for. ( Not the Uber touristic Cat Cat type. ) We visited w an ethnic Red Dao guide which made the visit even more meaningful. Saw classic weaving, embroidery working, moms w babies, men in the fields & lots of hiking fun.
Had lunch at Ta May Homestay / Restaurant - quite nice, plus had an all ceramic modern bathroom.
Well worth a visit.

If you want to observe the ancient tribes of the Vietnam hills just near the border with china then this is a must do. Best as a small group with a guide. The red Zhou ladies will pester you to buy, but we paid for a photo with them rather than buy (with the help of our guide translating).

Not too far from Sapa town where you can drive a car or a motorbike to the village for a wonderful stay with the homestay service from the local people. Peacefull and beautiful place and better than other touristic places and village in Sapa

Tramping trough the hills on a four day hike. The was a lot of beautiful views. Did not see as many people. We were told about how the locals were black, but the put it in a lot of colour. The people also, hand a certain branch on the house when they don't to be disturbed. Wonder if that would work with door to door salesmen!

No, you do not need a guide, but as the photo above shows, you will have LOTS of Hmong women accompanying you and asking you to buy their wares. They are VERY NICE but persistent. Our guide, Dong, from Asia Tour Advisors, was very helpful in advising us what a fair price would be, but also how to negotiate without hurting the feelings of the many (7) Hmong women accompanying us on our hike. We began the journey by trekking the nearby hills and waterfalls and despite a new pair of hiking shoes I slipped and fell on the very wet and irregular steps, so use some caution. That said, it was a very great journey and I would consider staying next time at one of the many Homestays in the area.
