We dropped in to pay a visit to this attraction and due to time limitation, we just took a few photos and left for other spots. There was not much visitors there during the time of our visit and the area was not as large...More

I must say that this Daibutsu Buddha has got to be the 'friendliest' of all the temple destination I had. Being in the open, I just felt that the veneration is up to reach of all people on that piece of land. Being one of...More

Worthy of just a quick stop, the temple and the large Buddha is best viewed in the afternoon because the statue is facing the west. Thus in the morning if one takes the photo it will be overcast and only a silhouette can be seen...More

This Daibutsu sits in the middle of town. Not as grandeur as the other two Great Buddahas. Why? Because it was built by the local people of Takaoka. The Nara Daibutsu was built by the Emperor. The Kamakura Daibutsu was built by Shogun. People wanted...More

The most handsome Buddha is worthy of a quick stop on the way to or from Kojo Park. Make sure you have a green tea ice cream from the store diagonally across from the Buddha.

A nice open area with a small temple on site. No entrance fee, open everyday. It is considered among the top three Buddhas along with the ones in Nara and Kamakura.

The Takaoka Great Buddha (0766-23-9156; 11-29 Ote-machi; open 6.00 am-6.00 pm with free entry) is virtually unknown by comparison to the Daibutsu in Kamakura and Nara which get all of the attention. This statue is relatively new with work beginning in 1907 but only completed...More

高岡大仏の原型は1745年の木材と金箔の大仏だった。このごろのは1933年に伝統的に青銅から作った大仏。日本の三番目に有名な大仏かも、奈良と鎌倉のに次いで。 Takaoka Daibutsu is probably the 3rd most famous 'Big Buddha' statue in Japan, after the one at Nara and then Kamakura. This one has the trendiest facial hair, I feel. The Buddha was cast in bronze in 1933 using the metalurgic knowledge of local...More

An important Buddhist statue for locals to worship and to pray genuinely. There are some paintings inside the circle grounded structure related to Buddhism. Still, the overall place is not very big. Spending here for 15 to 20 minutes is adequate for a quick visit...More
