Pylons dedicated to service men/women of all military branches. Very impressive and educational. Small gift shop and very clean restrooms... It's a long way from the last ones and until the next ones! Stop!

Quiet ,understated and remote. A perfect place to respect those who have given so much. Free. Convenient to the highway with plenty of parking. Even saw a moose and calf near the parking lot.

I had been lucky enough to lived in Alaska and I remember very well visiting this place when it was recently constructed in the early. At the time it was just spot on the site of the road with just the monument with a crank water pump for amenities. Time had change and in 30 plus year since it was... More

This was a great short stop for us. Learned a lot about Alaska and Alaskans, during many of the wars.

Here's a place to go for Memorial Day services. Each year on Sunday at 1300 hrs. The Anchorage Vets M/C has their ride from Mary Carries restaurant at mile 135ish to the Memorial at Byers Lake mile 147 on the Parks Hwy. It will be a place you will always go back to once you go the first time. There... More

In not sure there is a sign northbound. There was southbound. Very near another entrance for Byers lake. East side in denali state park. Close to mile 147. Well done. My veteran dad appreciated the stop. I thought it was very good too. Expect to spend 15 min or so.

I'm not American but couldn't help but feel moved at this memorial. It's a bit different than the usual and has very nice surroundings. Well worth a visit.

On Memorial Day every year, motorcyclists ride to the Alaska Veterans Memorial near Byers Lake in what is known as Roll of Thunder (due to the noise from the motorcycles). The memorial itself is quite a somber place. My favorite thing about the memorial is the statue of ATG (Alaska Territorial Guard) soldiers looking directly at Denali through binoculars. The... More
