The glaciers is impressive even from a distance. On a foggy morning we had the glacier to ourselves. Still plenty of snow glad we had wade boots. Would have been nice to walk to the toe but the trail was blocked. The glacial lake was like a mirror. Lots of birds. The glacier is receding by a lot so go see it if you can.

We had a nice hike up to the glacier for photos. Nature is amazing and the views were beautiful. The parking was great with educational information all around us.

Best views are right from the turnouts and your vehicle as you drive towards Valdez on the Richardson Hwy. Parking at the Glacier State Recreation Area is $5 and they have a person collecting it from the non profit Valdez based organization trying hard to keep it open and maintaining the bathrooms. It is good to pay the $5 to support their efforts. If you need a pit stop to stretch then stop. The once nice paved overlook trail is all over grown and you can barely see the whole face of the Glacier. Benches are even covered with bushes. The State website photo is ver decieving and probably at least a decade old! The bathrooms, vault toilets and info signage are good. Hiking path that once went closer to glacier has been closed down for a few years. For best photo ops use the highway views!

We were a little disappointed with this glacier site; when entering via Worthington Glacier State Recreational Area, guests can walk to an overlook, but plentiful signage indicated that walking to the glacier is considered trespassing.
It's a good opportunity to stretch your legs, but honestly, the view of this glacier is better from the highway than it is from the overlook.

This attraction didn't meet my expectations. It was a small glacier, at least the visible part looked small. There was sing about not crossing the fence, so I had to stay there, on the bottom.
My satisfaction could be much better if I could go up there and see it from closer distance.
During the winter or very early in spring it may look better with water coming down.
In June it was deadly quiet and dry.
If you have other options, just skip this glacier.

While driving to Valdez the view the scenic beauty mesmerises you and suddenly you see a beautiful glacier besides you.
This we understand is one of the most accessible glaciers in Alaska.

I booked this cruise expecting to get up close to the wall of the glacier but we didn't get close maybe because of all the ice floating in the water. But that alone was pretty cool so was pleased with the tour. The boat Capt pointed out many interesting things and took time to let us see some pretty cool wildlife.

Hi, Would there be a way to drive to the Worthington glacier from our cruise ship, by private vehicle, or an Uber. It appears to be only about 30 minutes away. Elizabeth Frost

I am signed up for a guided hike "up the glacier" - - all equipment supplied - - in connection with a cruise. Will this hike be okay for my 19 and 16 year old sons, who are in good shape? We have done a lot of hiking but never on ice.

Any specific hours of operation to take the trail from thr parking lot to the Worthington Glacier? Or is it open 24 hours?

I think you can access the glacier 24 hours as long as the road is clear. When we were there earlier in June one lane was clear to the foot of the glacier, however snow was everywhere and we couldn't walk on the glacier itself. It was still cool to see up close though.

Is there a particular time of day that Worthington Glacier would be best, to see and photograph in early September, assuming the day is nice of course. Pictures I have seen, the glacier seems to be pointing due east?!?

Any time you can see the glacier clearly is a god time. The weather in Thompson Pass can change quickly so it can be lousy 1 hour and be nice the next. Watch Valdez weather and if is clear there, take a drive up the pass. It's worth the drive
