My wife and I returned in September to continue our visit from July 2022. Ran into some Covid and missed out on the Denali based adventures. We were so happy and fortunate to have Terry as our guide for a second trip. Terry worked hard for our group to manage thru the weather and modify our times, with the help of the AAU office staff, to insure we were able to experience a flight and glacier landing at Denali National Park. Experience of a lifetime.

Sue and I were also fortunate to have a night stay at the AAU chalets in Wassilla. Very comfortable and created an opportunity to visit with Melissa and Ben. AAU has a very professional and friendly staff, including Ben's son and daughter.

We would highly recommend using AAU to visit Alaska for a trip of a lifetime.

Hope to return again to experience the northern lights!

We recently had the privilege of having Lyle lead our group of 14 for a week in September. He is very kind, polite and respectful, super knowledgeable of all the locations, relatable, a great storyteller, unflappable, made personal connections with each of us, thoughtful, good listener, took great pictures for us, went out of his way to accommodate personal wishes and he even made a special birthday event!

I would highly recommend Lyle and your excursion company!! You need to have an expert who knows the area -travel with Lyle!

Pros: Our particular guide (Rod-a retired science teacher that grew up in AK), activity choices (white water rafting, small plane over Denali), kayaking, AK railroad Gold Star, Wildlife Conservation Center, glacier walk & viewing, food, accommodations. Negatives: would have enjoyed a program by or about indigenous AK people. Definitely would recommend this 8 day tour. Weather nearly perfect everyday August 1-8, 2022.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your time with us! Most of our tours include a day at the Native Heritage Center however the Native Heritage Center adjusted their operating times in 2022 resulting in being closed on Sundays & Mondays for the season. We happily accommodated another option to the Wildlife Conservation Center for all of our groups that were affected by the adjusted hours. Plus you were able to take in the views along the Turnagain Arm! We are thrilled to hear you had wonderful weather & that Rod provided you a great experience. Hope to see you again in the future!

From our morning pick up to the final train ride from Seward our Alaska Adventure Unlimited trip was simply amazing. Jamie was the perfect tour guide, coach and teacher. He wasn't too "talkative" but provided the right amount of history, information and key tips for an excellent trip throughout Alaska. Favorite spots were staying at Denali Bluffs and hiking in Denali, hiking on the glaciers in Palmer and the fabulous train ride to Seward with morning Kayaking in Resurrection Bay. The Alaska Adventure Unlimited "cabins" in Wasilla are spectacular and even better than the pictures on the internet. Would highly recommend this tour approach to Alaska. Even with a few rainy days Jamie was able to pivot and provide a spectacular first trip to Alaska for our family of 5 ( ages 21-61)

I did the Denali Fall Colors tour with a childhood friend for our 50th birthday

Melissa was great in terms of helping us sign up and coordinate the tour. We had some challenging issues come up regarding last minute planning (from a death in the family), and Melissa handled things like a pro

The tour guide Terry Boyle was spectacular. We would play "2 degrees of Terry Boyle", because on all our adventures he was either a personal friend or a friend of a friend of seemingly everyone in Alaska. He was the perfect steward to make sure we enjoyed all 8 days or our trip.

The owner, Ben, and his son helped with all day-of accomodations (e.g., needing extra eggs for a hearty breakfast)

The tour itself was breath-taking. My favorite part was experiencing glaciers from 4 different perspectives - flying to the top of a glacier with a stunning view of Denali, taking a military-grade truck and boat to the foot of a glacier, walking along the edge of a glacier, and taking a 2 hour boat tour to access the glacier in Seward. I had taken a helicopter to a glacier in Juneau on another trip, but this experience was much better.

Other highlights was being pulled by Iditarod sled dogs and hiking in Denali National Park

Overall, a well run trip by a team working to make sure we had a great time

Alaska has been on our “Bucket List” for quite a while and we finally made it. What an adventure! Our small group of 12 really bonded over the course of the week. Thanks to each of them for shared photos and making the trip relational and enjoyable. The sights, sounds, and tastes were amazing. Our tour guide Terry was one-of-a-kind. It seemed like he was never more than “2 degrees” removed from anything Alaska. He was a wealth of knowledge and resource, and he kept us moving forward all the time. He handled the challenges like a pro and gave us the greatest opportunities and vantage points from which to experience Alaska. Thanks. The pictures may fade but the memories will live on. A truly incredible trip.

Amazing trip. We saw so much wildlife and really got a feel for what living in Alaska might be like. The tour guide/driver, Terry, was outstanding and very entertaining. He pivoted when the weather didn't cooperate and kept us moving. He stayed flexible and made sure all the accommodations were acceptable. He and Ben followed through on a complaint to make sure everyone was happy. The excursions were fantastic and we got to choose various options. All the excursion tour guides were very professional and knowledgeable. I would not hesitate to recommend Alaska Adventures Unlimited. The small group made for a very personal, fun experience for all.

We enjoyed the entire tour. Our highlights included Talkeetna Air Taxi, white water rafting, and the 1st Class Gold Star Train. Our flight seeing day originally scheduled wasn’t safe for flying due to weather, our Guide John was able to reschedule our flight for our return trip and we were lucky to get perfect weather for flying and spectacular views! We especially enjoyed our stays at the AAU Chalet - a special treat loaded with amenities in a private setting and Denali Lakeview Inn - enjoyed kayaking, a fire pit, and viewing moose. Restaurant options varied and met our needs. For those meals that were not included in the package, we would have preferred smaller group seating rather than a table for 15. This should be offered as alternative.
We would have preferred to stay an additional day in Denali National Park. If you plan to return on the 1st Class Gold Star Train from Anchorage to Seward on the same day, be aware that the timelines are tight between the train and the Kensington Fjords National Park Tour. Upon arriving at the Anchorage Railroad Depot, our party of 6 had no problems with our reservations and obtaining tickets. However, other AAU Travelers on our tour did, which created a delay for them in an overcrowded train station. Upon our arrival in Seward, we went directly to the Seward Railroad Booth to obtain our same evening return train tickets. The reservations were incorrect, not scheduling us to return until the following day rather than the same evening. We were able to resolve it on our own. However, since at this point of the trip there is no AAU Guide, we felt AAU should have confirmed our reservations to ensure proper passenger names and dates.
Overall, we recommend touring with AAU.

Thank you for your great review! We appreciate your feedback about the train reservations. We take pride in making sure our information is confirmed before the Seward portion of your journey. We looked into this and it appears our vendor had a system error on their part that resulted in combining your group numbers. This is a rare occurrence and we are glad you were able to get it resolved.

We had a great time on this trip, and Sid was an excellent guide. He was especially fabulous with 2 boys in the group, ages 10 and 12, taking time to show them things, like how to pan for gold, and make unplanned stops, like picking blueberries. He had great knowledge of Alaska, and i was happy to have someone do all the driving while also sharing so much info. We did a 10 day itinerary, which was fairly well planned with a good mix of activities. Main comment is that the 5h bus tour in Denali should've offered a hiking option.

We are so glad you had a great time with Sid! Thank you for the great review. We have heard feedback about the bus tour this year and are excited to offer a few more options for next year. Thank you for the suggestion.
