Touring this area of Alaska with a local guide is priceless. You get the feel for how people live and think in the area, not someone is only there for a summer job.
Our guide, Cullen, has a family that has been in the area for five generations. He was very helpful, informational, and positive. He dealt well with many different personalities.
I enjoyed the trip as I was traveling solo, there were other solo travelers on the trip and everyone was very friendly. I loved seeing what we saw, Couldn’t have asked for anything more.

The AAU people did what they could to resolve the issue I had with expecting 2 rooms (I paid the price for each person at "double occumpany", but they pointed out that I had actually selected double occupancy "quad", which apparnently means its not really double occupancy, but they can put 2 people in a room with a double bed with a trundle underneath. Also, another night was scheduled to be 2 rooms, but with a bed and a sofa to sleep on. As you might imagine, I was upset at this given the price I paid and that I had selected AAU over other tour loperators on the premise that we would all have a bed and 2 rooms each night. I will say they did resolve the situation, but at my expense, which if I had known the cost, I may have gone with another tour operator. All told, AAU did a good job though.
I need to add that our guide was Jamey Smith and he did a great job of herding our group of 14 around and taking care of issues as they arose. Try to get him for your guide; he was born and raised in AK and knows his way around.

We feel badly for the confusion around the accomodations. Usually our quad occupancy guests are families that would like the convenience of 4 guests staying in a single unit. We are glad you felt we were able to resolve the situation for your group albeit last-minute.
Thank you for the great review about Jamie as well. As a life-long Alaskan, he brings a lot of insights into what makes Alaska so special. We hope you take away great memories of your Alaskan experience.

If you've never experienced Alaska, this is the way to do it! What an incredible experience. I did the 10 day tour and this far exceeded my expectations. All lodging was fantastic. I feel like this packs as many unique Alaska experiences as possible into the allotted time.
Our guide, Lyle, is a lifelong Alaskan that offered great insight of the state, its past and present inhabitants, the wildlife, and the landscape. He took great care of us throughout the trip (even with all the wrinkles that COVID presented).
There weren't any bad experiences on the trip. If I had it to do over again I'd forgo the zip lining. Fun course and great instructors, but not very scenic. In hindsight I'd rather have kayaked around the lake near our lodging in the **breathtaking** scenery.
Highlight of the trip was definitely the flight-seeing tour of Denali and the surrounding mountains. Incredible views and the experience of landing on a glacier and taking in the sights from 7,500 feet was incredible. I highly recommend including this in your tour. Wow. If you're into fishing I'd highly recommend the excursion from Seward for that also. Very unique fishing experience and we got to see a pod or orca as bonus.
If you're like me you're looking at this and debating whether or not its worth the cost. It is an expensive trip.... Do it. It's worth every penny. I'm so glad that I had the COVID-saved travel funds to do this last minute. A trip I'll never forget!

Returned yesterday from the most memorable vacation, set up with you. Your company becomes the best I've ever worked with, and there have been many!
When it comes to Zac the guide, he presented himself to be extremely qualified. I reveled in his silly humor, touching stories, amazing recall of history, facts and figures and an overwhelming sense of being safe and thoughtfully treated. You can be proud he'll be promoting Alaska tourism in the future, bringing people to the state you both so clearly love and cherish.
Thank you again for your professionalism, kindness and grand spirit of obvious love for Alaska.

I recently took the 8-day Best of Alaska tour. It was an awesome experience. Rafting on the river, hiking on a glacier, touring Denali National Park, jet boats at Knik, the Seavey kennel in Seward, and much more! Dwight is the best guide, imparting history and knowledge, making me curious for more information about the beautiful state of Alaska. He also regaled us with personal stories of living and teaching in Alaska. The whole trip was seamlessly choreographed, allowing time for unexpected stops and photo opportunities. AAU took the stress out of planning a memorable trip of a lifetime! Corky, Erica, Dwight - thanks for the memories!

We enjoyed the entire tour. Our highlights included Talkeetna Air Taxi, white water rafting, and the 1st Class Gold Star Train. Our flight seeing day originally scheduled wasn’t safe for flying due to weather, our Guide John was able to reschedule our flight for our return trip and we were lucky to get perfect weather for flying and spectacular views! We especially enjoyed our stays at the AAU Chalet - a special treat loaded with amenities in a private setting and Denali Lakeview Inn - enjoyed kayaking, a fire pit, and viewing moose. Restaurant options varied and met our needs. For those meals that were not included in the package, we would have preferred smaller group seating rather than a table for 15. This should be offered as alternative.
We would have preferred to stay an additional day in Denali National Park. If you plan to return on the 1st Class Gold Star Train from Anchorage to Seward on the same day, be aware that the timelines are tight between the train and the Kensington Fjords National Park Tour. Upon arriving at the Anchorage Railroad Depot, our party of 6 had no problems with our reservations and obtaining tickets. However, other AAU Travelers on our tour did, which created a delay for them in an overcrowded train station. Upon our arrival in Seward, we went directly to the Seward Railroad Booth to obtain our same evening return train tickets. The reservations were incorrect, not scheduling us to return until the following day rather than the same evening. We were able to resolve it on our own. However, since at this point of the trip there is no AAU Guide, we felt AAU should have confirmed our reservations to ensure proper passenger names and dates.
Overall, we recommend touring with AAU.

Thank you for your great review! We appreciate your feedback about the train reservations. We take pride in making sure our information is confirmed before the Seward portion of your journey. We looked into this and it appears our vendor had a system error on their part that resulted in combining your group numbers. This is a rare occurrence and we are glad you were able to get it resolved.

We finally made it to Alaska in 2022 after 3 years of planning. We did one week on a cruise and one week on land Alaska Adventure Unlimited and our guide Cody. The land portion with Cody and AAU was a big highlight. And it was truly the vacation of a lifetime.
We got off the Norwegian Jewel after cruising the inside passage and Glacier Bay. We spent the day in Seward touring Kenai Fjords National park with Major Marine Tours and then took the train (glass car) from Seward to Anchorage (both highly recommended).
Cody picked us up the next morning at 11am at the Embassy Suites and began our adventure together.
We had 3 seniors, 2 juniors ( 11 year old boy and girl twins), and my hubby and I who are in our 40s. Everyone had a fantastic time.
The van we rode in was comfortable and well equipped. The excursions were all amazing and everyone had a good time. Our favorites were the white after rafting and walking on the glacier.
Our guide Cody was knowledgeable, friendly, and a pleasure to be around. And the accommodations and food were all high quality.
I also really appreciated how everything was planned so well from rest stops for bathroom breaks on the long drive to/from Denali, the pre-planned dining reservations, and the breakfasts included with the majority of the accommodations.
We saw lots of wildlife on our trip including a adorable baby moose frolicking in a lake with its mama.
The AAU 6 day package is quite a hefty price-point but it’s clear to see why after experiencing it for yourself. If you can afford it, I would highly recommend.

From our initial contact calling the Alaskan Adventure unlimited office to inquire, Erica and Kelsey, lifetime Alaskan residents, were immensely helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. They directed us to the information we requested, allayed our concerns, and after we selected our favorites from an impressive variety of activities offered, they put together our custom- selected 10-day dream vacation with personalized interest and excellent care! We invited 6 close friends to join us which enabled us to travel together in our "own" Alaskan Adventure van, decked out with extra binoculars to borrow, cold drinks whenever we wanted, and a great sound system to learn from our exceptional guide, Dwight, as we traveled. What a wonderful person! He went out of his way to fulfill our requests along the way, from birding sightings, Mt. McKinley photo stops, ice cream and shopping stops, and all the while regaling us with history, stories, and Alaskan lore. Having been on an Alaskan cruise previously, we thought we had seen glaciers. No comparison! Nothing could have prepared us for the Glacier sightings of this trip! Helicopter views of piercing blue glacier lakes, landing and actually tasting the glacier water! Unforgettable! Flight seeing and landing on a stunning Glacier plunging down between towering mountains, 8/10ths of a mile deep. We caught Salmon, and Rockfish during an ocean fishing excursion, kayaked in the waves, wandered the forests, thrilled during river rafting, went speed boating to another breathtaking Glacier, rode dog sleds, hiked in Denali National Forest, viewed bear, seals, caribou, Whales, several moose, and amazing landscapes! This trip was seriously beyond our greatest expectations! The hotels were very nice, the food very good, the Chalets and Lakeside hotel quaint and memorable, but the activities were fabulous! The planning, attention to detail, professionalism and overall experience with Alaska Adventure Unlimited was well worth the "bit more" investment!

Our guide was local, and knew just about everything there was to know about Alaska. He was prompt and escorted us everywhere, making sure we had the best possible outcomes. He was thoughtful to meet our needs and could adjust our itinerary times when needed. Our guide made sure we had all the photos and group photos we wanted. We always felt that we were seeing the best Alaska had to offer.

We took the 8 Day Best of Alaska tour with Cody as our guide/driver. It was an amazing trip! The itinerary is jam packed with adventures that you don't want to miss. The package is clearly designed to give an all encompassing view of the Alaskan experience with excursions by bus, train, raft, boat, cruise, dog sled, plane, helicopter, and ATV (some of these are included, some are upgrades).
The highlight of our trip was the helicopter ride w/ dog sled tour in Seward. We did not expect to enjoy the helicopter ride as much as we did, it offered the best views we had seen all week!
We cannot say enough good things about our guide Cody. Not only did he provide valuable insight into the history and culture of Alaska, he was a pleasure to spend time with. There were some hiccups with our vehicle, and he took care of everything in a professional and timely manner. Nothing seemed to phase him!
The only negative comment we have is that we were slightly disappointed that one of our nights was in a Best Western. It just didn't live up to the other accommodations provided on the trip (which were fantastic).
Also - if you are trying to decide between the moderate and upscale pre- or post- tour hotel bookings, choose the upscale. We didn't and we regretted it!
