Read about the history about it and you will be even more amazed that they did what they did in the time period!!! It's a little scary how small it is and that a train uses it also!!!

I've been traveling through this mountain for over 30 years. Time to write a review. This was a train tunnel. It was built during WWII. Throughout my childhood the only way to get to Whittier was to ride the train. Then they updated the tunnel....More

We had a cruise in Prince William Sound and in order to reach Whittier we had to take this tunnel. The tunnel is one way in an alternate way so you need to wait till it is your turn. The only downside is that you...More

My two sons and I enjoyed this long, unique tunnel, which takes exactly six minutes to drive through. I know because I timed it for my wife and counted down the minutes. My wife who closed her eyes and listened to music the whole 6...More

The tunnel is the only way for the Alaska Railroad and for car and trucks to go to Whittier. It is one lane wide. It seems endless to travel the 2.5 miles, but it actually only takes 5 minutes each way. It is important to...More

Off the Seward Highway the Tunnel is the only way to get to Whittier. Be sure to check the times when the tunnel will be open to travel in the direction you wish to go. The tunnel is one lane so at any one time...More

The things scary movies are made of should have stopped here. Gteat experience no more different in price than a regular toll. Great structure.

If you want to go to Whittier, you have to go through the tunnel. Price is a little steep, $13 round trip, so I wouldn't pay it just to see the tunnel. But, if you want to go to Whittier, the tunnel is unique. You...More

We arrived and paid $10 for a ticket and then joined the carline and waited until the one-way became the otherway and then entered the tunnel.

Why not? A driver you contract will take you anywhere you want to go, as long as you pay the toll. You pay the toll to get into the Whittier area, but not to leave. Are you going to Whittier or just driving through the... More

The tunnel opens at 6:00 a.m. leaving Whittier and every hour after that. They only allow so many through the tunnel to make sure it is clear for traffic coming into Whittier on every half hour. The toll to drive through... More

I just traveled through there and your motor home will have no problem. The train travels through this tunnel in between vehicles so there is plenty of room.
