The history regarding this tunnel is very interesting. Look up on the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel website for the times that autos are allowed to go through the tunnel. They stay on schedule.

My husband and I took the tunnel to drive from Anchorage to Girdwood. It is an 8 minute car ride to drive through the tunnel. The tunnel coordinators run a tight ship as they are very timely. So make sure that you arrive on time,...More

While there were 6 lanes full of traffic into the tunnel the trip was fast and orderly. Once leaving the tunnel there are bathrooms along the road and gravel roads to the beach and bay.

My wife and I needed a different route to get to Valdez. We did not want to travel from Seward back to Anchorage and then to Glennalan and then south to Valdez. We were hesitant at first to drive through this 2 1/2 mile tunnel....More

We enjoyed stopping our car and waiting to enter the tunnel which has only 1 way, so make sure you time it correctly depending on which direction you're headed. Loved how everyone was out of their car talking to each other. Fun experience

Be sure to check the travel/pass times for your trip. The tunnel, while built for WWII train usage, is a short 2.5 mile pass through the man to get to Whittier. It is run very efficiently and will get you to Whittier or home again....More

Why not? A driver you contract will take you anywhere you want to go, as long as you pay the toll. You pay the toll to get into the Whittier area, but not to leave. Are you going to Whittier or just driving through the... More

I just traveled through there and your motor home will have no problem. The train travels through this tunnel in between vehicles so there is plenty of room.
