Overview
More
Major Marine Tours offers two thrilling day cruises into Prince William Sound, and the grandeur of its ever-changing glaciers. Choose between the 5.25 hour Surprise Glacier Cruise and the 4.5 hour Blackstone Glacier Cruise. All trips are hosted by a Chugach National Forest Ranger. At the glaciers you'll often witness calving - a process by which glaciers shed giant blocks of ancient ice. This area is also home to a wide variety of animals including sea lions, seals, sea otters, and mountain goats; as well as an abundance of bird rookeries with many species including eagles and kittywakes. You can enhance your experience with our Alaska salmon and prime rib buffet, freshly prepared on board the vessel. All guests are guaranteed reserved seating inside our heated cabins.

Lots of rain early. Very thick fog. Visibility less than 50 yards. Ate our salmon and prime rib while the rain subsided and fog lifted. Last half of tour was great. Would do it again.

We went on the last day of our Alaska trip. Nice, sunny day. The captain & the ranger on board were very knowledgeable. Saw beautiful glaciers, lots of wildlife including orcas, whales, sea otters, a black bear.

We had good weather, but think we were lucky. Saw glaciers and captain stopped when wildlife was seen.

We did the Surprise Glacier cruise just a couple weeks ago. We loved it, but our priority was seeing a glacier calve. We were fortunate that it did calve a few times. However, this is really the only glacier you see close... More

The tunnel opens one way every hour and you would have to make it by 10:30 or 11:30am. Probably want to get closer than Seward as that would be several hour drive. Worth the effort!
