Just outside of Bisbee, there is a parking and viewing area right off the highway where you can look down into the 900 ft deep, 300 acre hole in the ground. Stop by for a few minutes and take a look.

If you visit Bisbee it's an attraction that you can't miss. You can appreciate the beauty of the different shades of the earth. Unfortunately at the end of the pit you can see a liquid formed by water and chemicals from the mine.

Quite an amazing site after travelling hundreds of miles in undisturbed scenery. Turns out to be a very colorful display.

The Lavender Pit is an interesting little stop about a mile outside of Bisbee. I don't think I would pay to do any tours of it, but it's worth stopping for a picture or two.

This pit is spectacular and amazing. This was where they used to mine copper and is now a very deep canyon that is well worth a visit if you are anywhere near Bisbee.

There isn't a lot going on, no tour guides or anything, but you can get some pretty spectacular views of an open pit mine. The colors are beautiful, and this made for a good photo opportunity.

Living in Bisbee, I drive my this thing daily. It's an ugly reminder of what was once a giant operational mine. It's so large even Hwy 80 is set inside the hole. Keep driving by it.

There are many colors in different layers of the earth. Hard to fathom its enormity and beautiful to look at.

If you have never seen and open pit mine, stop here. There is a pull off just outside the old town that you can get a good visual perspective of the Lavender pit mine. It's no longer operating.
