While bumming around in the area we stopped here for a picnic lunch. We are out lunch, surfed the internet on the city supplied wi-fi, then walked around the small botanical gardens. A relaxing place! We enjoyed it!

This is one of the largest sundials located in the Carefree Desert Gardens. Families can explain to their children how people told time before clocks were invented.

The pumpkin show at Halloween is spectacular! You must see it! The artist is the best in the world! This is a must see!

Its nothing. Not worth the calories. A joke. Waste of time. Look at a rock for more excitement. The mountains in the background are worth the visit. Not this. Check out all the Fore Rent signs on stores.

What else can be said. It is the largest sundial in the western hemisphere. The town of carefree is quaint but I prefer it's neighbor Cave Creek. Lots of restaurants nearby, shopping too.

my husband and i drove up to carefree/cave creek yest. afternoon. we haven't been there for a few years. i was very impressed with the botanical garden that has been put in place in carefree. vendors were setting up for a fun w/e, at the same time as cave creek was having their rodeo. so something for everyone, only 5 minutes apart. we are staying @ a resort in central scottsdale, so it was an easy 45 drive there, and looking at how things have changed over the years along scottsdale road.

What a beautiful town. We really enjoyed walking around. They had decorated the center for Halloween.

This is a great place to walk around - watch the artists as they work, do a little shopping, and have a delicious lunch at one of the many restaurants in Carefree. The pumpkin carving is located right by the one of a kind sun dial and this special event is FREE. We stayed longer than we expected. The day was lovely and watching some of the artist as they created wonderful creatures from pumpkins fantastic.

We were in town for the first time. You can’t miss the sundial because it’s huge and Carefree is small.

Ok to go there, but only if you are in Carefree. It is not worth a detour from the I-17 to get there. Stores there are ok, but not exceptional. Biggest sundial in Arizona? The world? Don't know and don't care, but at least looking at it was free.

What time does the Desert Garden open for the public?
Written April 4, 2019
It’s like a town park, so you can go any time. There is a nice walking path, little stream, waterfall, and lots of pretty desert plants. It’s not a huge botanic garden, but is worth seeing. There are shops and restaurants nearby.
