A scenic park that belies its ominous name and is best known for bird watching, camping, canoeing, hiking and horseback riding. Dead Horse Ranch State Park is located adjacent to and across the Verde River from the community of Cottonwood. It is centrally located near several major population centers such as Flagstaff, Phoenix, and Prescott. When using Dead Horse Ranch as a base, one has a variety of attractions to visit, including: Jerome State Historic Park, Fort Verde State Historic Park, Red Rock State Park, Slide Rock State Park, Tuzigoot National Monument, Montezuma Castle and Well National Monuments, Oak Creek Canyon, Prescott National Forest, Coconino National Forest, and the popular towns of Sedona and Jerome.

You can’t go wrong with this particular park, you’ve got everything from wildlife, a river, scream, and great hiking trails, if you get a chance go it’s a lot of fun and very relaxing.

Easy access to park and once their it is quiet and peaceful. The park is clean and facilities well maintained. A nice retreat from the bustle of everyday life.

Spent a week tent camping and was blown away at this site!! Felt secure and safe! Shower house was clean, well kept, and absolutely the best we have seen! Enjoyed the quiet serenity and peaceful surroundings! Night sky was amazing!!

I believe you can but would call to be sure! Awesome place to picnic too. Don't forget the exit gift shop. Cute stuff!

Yes, there are plenty of places where your kids can play in the water because the Verde River goes through Dead Horse Park and Cottonwood in general...
