This is definitely a place you need to visit. It is very informative - maybe even too informative: there is a lot to read on displays so I suggest being a bit selective. You definitely need 2 hours to take it all in. This is not a place to rush by and say "yeah, apartheid was bad". This is a... More

Unfortunately, we did not have enough time to experience the entire museum but the Nelson Mandela exhibit was more than worth the trip! Familiarizes visitors with the man as well as the political icon and historical background.

Although this is a fascinating and important museum can't help it could be made much better. There is a huge amount of information all on written boards - this is ok for adults but loses kids attention fairly quickly. It has no obvious route to follow so but haphazard and staff started to close areas at 4pm for a 5pm... More

We only had time to do one thing in J'Burg and we decided to visit the apartheid museum. I think it was the perfect thing to do to really understand the history of South Africa. Leave the Mandela section until last - we ended up accidentally weaving our way that way first and it would have been better left until... More

This is place was added in as part of a days tour and whilst it is very confronting it is also very informative and a must. A great and important part of a country history done very tastefully.

We went whilst on a tour. What a fabulous and informative museum. For anyone interest in South African and world history this is a must. The only problem we had was that we ran out of time. I was schedule at a minimum 3 hours if you wish to really go through the exhibits properly.

I looked forward to the experience, but the museum was quite disappointing. It mostly gave data and technial information about the apartheid, and not enough experiences and implications on daily life.

I visit memory sites around the world and was incredibly impressed with the Apartheid Museum. I spent the recommended 3+ hours in the museum, and then went back in to view parts of it again. Definitely worth your time.

We enjoyed a lot this museum even if you can spend 3-4 hours inside. We appreciated mostly the Old history of south africa of 19th Century that we knew less. Nice outside visit also.

Great museum recreation of the apartheid era that still exists if one pays attention. What a great observation of the manipulation of society.
